But, there are some soccer players who die unjustified deaths from being murdered to being struck by lightning. 5. Senzo Meyiwa

This is probably the most well known death of a South African soccer star of all time. Senzo Meyiwa was shot dead in 2014 at his then-girlfriend’s house in Vosloorus. According to sources, he was hassling with the intruders who invaded the house. In that fight, the soccer star was shot dead and according to Kelly Khumalo, he died in her arms that day.

Senzo has been remembered and commemorated in so many things ever since. In fact, he recently got a five episode documentary named after him, Senzo Meyiwa: The death of a soccer star streaming on Netflix. His trial however, is still ongoing and, it may seem that even after 8 years since his death, he might never get any justice. [1]

4. Sizwe Motaung

Most people might actually not know who Sizwe is or was. However, for the older folks, Sizwe was one of the best South African soccer players to ever hit the pitch. He even played in Spain and Switzerland. However, his era was unfortunate. He lived prior to the existence of ARVs, so HIV was pretty much lethal those days.

The pacey Bafana Bafana right-back reportedly died of an Aids-related disease in 2001. He was at the twilight of his career having accumulated 51 national team caps, winning the 1996 Africa Nations Cup, and featuring for the likes of Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, AmaZulu, Jomo Cosmos and Mamelodi Sundowns.

Marc Batchelor (4 January 1970 – 15 July 2019) was a South African professional footballer who played as a striker. He was the only South African player known to have played for all three major teams, Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.

2. Luyanda Ntshangase

After being struck by lightning during a football play back in March, Luyanda Ntshangase passed away in the hospital. The Maritzburg United FC player, 21, has been in an induced coma ever since he was struck by lightning on March 1 during a friendly game.The player’s death was verified by Maritzburg United FC in a statement posted to Facebook.

Farook Kadodia, the chairman of Maritzburg, stated in the statement: “We are devastated by the passing of Luyanda, a talented young footballer who was fascinating to watch. We would like to send the Ntshangase family our sincere condolences on behalf of Maritzburg United Football Club.”

Ntshangase was one of three players struck by lightning during the friendly match in the South African state of KwaZulu-Natal in early March, according to South African media. The two other victims “were only mildly harmed,” but Ntshangase sustained chest burns.

A talented young player from Limpopo finally realized his goals after getting a contract with Mamelodi Sundowns, a well-known football club in South Africa. This contract likely opened the door for him to a life of success, not just for him but also for his loved ones. Sadly, the young man died shortly after signing his contract after being struck by lightning.

Lesiba Ramabola, who was only 21 years old and with all the potential to develop into a great football player, was struck by lightning in a Seshego park in zone one. His family is still grappling with the reality of his passing. [3]

Given that some people think his sudden death was weird, they might have been responsible for it if they caused lightning to strike him. On the other hand, it happens frequently for lightning to strike a person. People have passed away as a result of this in several instances.
