People get sick of different diseases and some of them can be chronic illnesses. Even our celebrities do get sick and open up about how they manage these sicknesses. In this post we will focus on 10 Mzansi Actors suffering from chronic illnesses.

No1. Mbali Maphumulo, breast cancer

Mbali Maphumulo, noted for her roles in soap operas such as The Wild, Uzalo, and Isibaya, is a two-time breast cancer survivor. In 2001, she was diagnosed with breast cancer for the first time. She received treatment and was in remission for four years before the cancer flared up again in 2005. She had a double mastectomy and has since been in remission.

No2. Bahumi Madisakwane, struggles with lymphedema

Actress Bahumi Madisakwane was diagnosed with a chronic illness known as lymphedema about 10 years ago. She recently opened up about it and told publications how she is copying. Bahumi, who is also the daughter of renowned media personality, Somizi Mhlongo and actress Palesa Madisakwane recently took to her Instagram page to share her struggles with lymphedema with intentions of educating others about this medical condition.0

No3. Dr Jerry Mofokeng wa Makhetha, has prostate cancer

In 2020, the renowned actor notable for many roles in the South African film industry was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Following three weeks of treatment, the physicians notified him that all of his cancer symptoms had gone and that he was in remission.

No4. Sophie Lichaba, living with diabetes

Another actress who opened up about her chronic illness is Sophie Lichaba. In 2022 on World Diabetes day, she opened up about living with diabetes for 10 years. She shared that the chronic disease taught her not to take her life for granted. She reminded everyone that some storms are not meant to break you but to slow you down and help you grow. Ndaba gained fame in Mzansi after playing the role of Queen Moroka in the popular soapie Generations.

No5. Mmasechaba Moshoeshoe, suffering from hypertension 

The actress and TV host experienced a significant weight loss as a result of a chronic disease. When people saw her tremendous weight loss, her photos went viral right away. When she was cast in a doctor role on Muvhango, the weight loss was evident. Masechaba then talked about how she lost weight as a result of a chronic disease.

No6. Howza Mosese, living with diabetes 

Howza Mosese is also among the celebrities with chronic illnesses. The talented actor and musician, is well known for playing detective Lerumo on Scandal!. Howza has been living with diabetes for many years, and since discovering it at the age of 21 years. He normally educates the public about the condition, and pretty much lives a healthy life.

No7. Connie Ferguson, has chronic depression 

Connie Ferguson a well known actress known for Generations disclosed that she suffers from chronic depression. Many of our famous people have also talked about depression, and regrettably, some of them have committed suicide because they were unable to deal with it. The actress, producer, entrepreneur, and all-around superwoman uses exercise as a coping mechanism for her illness.

No8. Lerato Kganyago, had womb fibroids 

Media personality and well known actress Lerato Kganyago looked all fine on our screens but the actress has been suffering from a chronic illness. She had fibroids growing in her womb causing her stomach to swell. This swelling had caused her confidence to plummet until she got treatment. Her stomach appeared like that of a pregnant woman since each fibroid was as a size of tennis ball. So, she couldn’t wear her usual tight clothes or bikinis. Before getting help Lerato was told the solution was to remove the fibroids but it would cause her not concive ever again.

No9. Masasa Mbangeni, suffering from anxiety 

In 2020 actress Masasa Mbangeni noticeably gained weight which led to the masses spreading pregnancy rumours . She then addressed the rumours revealing that she has been taking Anxiety medication which cause water weight gain. The actress gained popularity when she starred on etv drama series Scandal as Thembeka Shezi.

No10. Zandile Msutwana, has polycystic ovary syndrome

Another actress who opened up about their health issue is Zandile Msutwana. She opened up via Instagram talking about the suffering she had to endure from polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Zandile didn’t suspect much until she saw hairs on face while watching herself on TV that she decided to see a doctor. She was told the unusual facial hair was as a result of PCOS.
