No1. Life with Moshe – started Sunday, 28 January 2024

Television personality and actor Moshe Ndiki is spicing up our television programs with his new reality television show. The reality show is based on his new chapter in life of becoming a father through surrogacy. From the joys of expecting twin boys to balancing his complicated life in show business. The new show which premierers on Sunday, 28 January 2024 at 7:30pm, promises to deliver a story of hope, joy and determination. [1]

No2. Champions – Started Monday, 5 February 2024

We know our viewers love telenovelas and soapies, and that’s exactly what Mzansi Magic is gracing us with this early February. The channel is premiering a telenovela known as Champions which explores challenges, love and betrayal in the world of soccer empire. This dram is going to replace people’s favorite drama The River so it better be interesting.

The telenovela cast Jo-Anne Reyneke as the lead actress by the name of Sne Modise and other big actors such as Sello Maake ka-Ncube and Tumisho Masha. The lead actor Jo-Anne as Sne is a resilient, ambitious and is determined to challenge gender norms as she leads fictitious Soshanguve Giants football club to success.

No3. Summertide – Starts 28 January 2024

A new television series called Summertide is coming to DStv M-Net channel with 52 episodes. The local production is set to air on Sunday, 28 January 2024 on M-Net at 6pm. The series is based on fictitious Field family and it’s setting is Cape Town’s False Bay area where the family tackles themes of grief, the transformation power of love, community, conservation, and transformation.

It will feature great actors including its lead actor Frank Rautenbach who plays Martin Field, a protagonist character, a biologist who deals with his tragic loss of his wife and is now facing the challenge of raising his kids alone. Other actors includes Amalia Uys as Martin’s late wife Julia Field, Monique Rockman as Rebecca, Tyrone Keogh as Martin’s brother and Terry Norton just naming a few.

No4. A Soweto Love Story-  Started on 14 February 2024

A romantic comedy movie “A Soweto Love Story” is premiering on 14 February 2024 on Netflix. The storyline is based on Bongekile Ngubeni (by Duduzile Ngcobo), a mother who longs to see his three single sons getting married and bring her daughters in law. The Ngubeni matriarch promises to offer her house to one of her three unmarried sons who gets married first by the New Year.  This sparks an intensely competitive race against time to tie the knot first amongst the three brothers. The brothers are playedby Lunga Shabalala, Sparky Xulu and Ray Neo Buso.

No5. Red Ink – Started February 12, 2024

A new thriller series called Red Ink is coming to Showmax starting on 9 February 2024 as one of 15 New Mzansi Dramas, Serials and Movies which are Coming in 2024 including Returning seasons. The thriller is based on Angela Makhoba-Moabelo’s best selling debut novel. The eighth part thriller tells the story of journalist turned publicist Lucy Khambule played by Nqobile Nunu Khumalo. Lucy is approached by an imprisoned serial killer to tell his story. The series features well known actors such as Kwenzo Ngcobo, Bongile Mantsai, Lorcia Cooper Khumalo, Jo-Anne Reyneke and Bonko Khoza who plays Napoleon Dingiswayo the serial killer nicknamed the Butcher by the media.

No6. Heart of the Hunter – Debuts in the 1st quarter of 2024

Netflix is again going to start the first quarter of 2024 with bang when it releases a new spy thriller film called Heart of the Hunter. The film which is based on the novel by acclaimed author Deon Meyer and was directed by Mandla Dube. The film will feature the following Mzansi stars, Bonko Khoza as Zuko Khumalo, Connie Ferguson as Molebogeng Kwena, Masasa Mbangeni and Nicole Fortuin. [2]

No7. S’phiwo – started 15 January 2024

A television drama series called S’phiwo which features Zenokuhle Maseko as a lead actor who plays Nothando is already playing on our television screens. The series’ second season started on 15 January 2024 and it plays every Monday at 8pm on Mzansi Magic. So, if you haven’t started watching it, go check it out. It tells a fantasy story of African spirituality and ancestors.

In it is Nothando by Zenokuhle Maseko, a vibrant and eager young woman experiencing life to the fullest at the University. It also features Nozuko Ncayiyane as Zodwa, a young sangoma who is deep in African spirituality and her world eventually collides with Nothando.

No8. Ezomshado – started 14 January 2024

If you were not aware that Ezomshado returned with season number two then you are left behind. The show which made its debut in January of 2023 returned this year on Sunday, 14 January at 8pm. In brief, the show offers an intimate look into the lives of couples at a crossroad, taking them on a transformative healing journey in their marriage. The show is hosted by reality Queens Busisiwe MaCele Mseleku and Thobile MaKhumalo who teams up with experts to renew most marriages which are on rough patches.

No9. Reyka- Starts 11 January 2024

Another drama series not to be missed in 2024 is M-Net prime primetime crime drama Reyka. The drama returned with season 2 on Thursday 11 January at 8pm with new characters. The story is based on Detective Reyka Gama (played by Kim Engelbrecht) who returns and is seconded to the Durban Harbour Police Station where she gets busy with building a profile of a killer. The killer targets couples at a coastal lookout spot called Lover’s Lane.

No10. Abandoned  Returns 9 January 2024

Reality television show Abandoned returned also on Tuesday, 9 January 2024 at 8pm on Mzansi Magic. The reality television is based on the hope of reconciliation and reunion of parents with their children which they long abandoned. It is hosted by Phumeza Shoba who was also abandoned by her father and in one episode from previous seasons had to look for her white father. If you haven’t watched this show, check it out as we see children searching their parents and goes through emotional healing.

No11. Real Housewives of Durban Season 4 – starts 9 February 2024

Another reality television program which is returning is Real Housewives of Durban with season 4. The show takes an inside look at the lives of the affluent Housewives and professional women in the suburban area of Durban. It includes their daily lives of conspicuous consumption  and splendor, fashion accessories, and expensive toys in their driveways. Season 4 of this show is starting on 9 February 2024 with returning wives and newcomers including Nqobile Ndlela and Zamaswazi Nqcobo.’[3]

No12. Blood and Water season 4 – start 1st quarter of 2024

It’s been long since fans of Blood and Water watched the last episode of its last season.  Mzansi was glued to the teen drama and its thrilling story of Zephany Nurse who was kidnapped at birth and raised by a totally different family. Fans were wondering if there is another season coming. Yes, there is season four of Blood and Water coming on our screens on Netflix starting in the first quarter of 2024.

No13. Savage Beauty Season 2 – starts in 2024

Savage Beauty which debuted in May 2022 is returning with second season in 2024. The actual debut date for this season is not known but 2024 will not end before it begins. The series is about a mysterious woman who embeds herself in a powerful family with a global beauty empire and plenty of dark secrets. It’s lead stars are Rosemary Zimu, Dumisani Mbebe and Nthati Moshesh just to name a few.

No14. Young, Famous and African season 3 – starts in 2024

Last but not least is the reality television show Young, Famous and African which is being renewed for its third season. According to reports from Netflix, the next season of the show will debut in 2024 and the shooting is expected to start soon. To those who are new to it, the shows follows a group of friends who are African entertainers and A-listers as they go about their lives having fun, flirting and fighting in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The show which features some of Africa’s top stars from South Africa, Nigeria, Tanzania, Namibia and Uganda, has gained popularity in the continent since it’s first season. Some of the famous people on this show include Khanyi Mbau, Bonang Matheba, Diamond Platnumz,  Ugandan businesswoman Zari Hassan and many more.

No15. Killer Front Page- Started 14 January 2024

Another drama series of 15 New Mzansi Dramas, Serials and Movies which are Coming in 2024 including Returning seasons which is already playing every Sunday at 8pm on Mzansi Magic is Killer Front Page. It started on 14 January 2024 and is based on a journalist Sol Mojalefa Phiri, played by Lemogang Tsipa, whose stale career takes an unexpected turn. He desires to be the best journalist and out of desperation for recognition, Sol fabricate a front-page story. As he gain fame and respect, his relationships and values spiral out of control, leading to a consequence that is as unexpected as it is inevitable.
