Nolwazi Shange Ngubeni is a 38-year-old South African actress born on 19 January 1984. She was born in Durban KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. And she was raised in Pinetown then in Southern Suburb of Cape town called Claremont in Western Cape, South Africa. She was born in a musical family. Her granny was a conductor of the church choir, her aunts and uncles sang in the choir so it was very natural for her to become a performer. She was very involved in sports, choir, drama, performances and was an athlete at Pinetown Senior Primary school. Nolwazi’s parents were fearful of her following arts studies but her grandmother allayed her parents to accept her choice of study.

Nolwazi was a guest starring as Zinhle on SABC 1 drama series of Mtunzini.com on the first episode of its third season. She had her first lead role on SABC 1 drama series called A Place Called Home as Precious from 2008 to 2009. In 2010 she starred as Dimpho Miya on SABC 1’s Soul City season ten. She had a recurring role of Kwezi, the tough, down-to-earth next door neighbour who sees right through the boys’ nonsense, in the SABC1 sitcom Single Guys in 2013. The very same year of 2013 she was casted as Kgomotso on Zabalaza between May and November. She was later replaced by Nonhle Thema after she left the drama to pursue other projects. ²
She also played Minister Patience Mhlongo on The River in the second
season and third season. In 2021 she was casted for two roles. Her first role was in January when she was casted alongside Masasa Mbangeni, and Dumisani Mbebe as Sibongile Dlomo a villain in a drama series Mzali Wam’. This drama explores the human trafficking syndicate. Then in September 2021 she was casted together with Scandal new cast as Lady M the wife to Jojo – Joseph Kubeka on Scandal etv. She appeared on a film called Otelo Burning and on Intersections. She later obtained Golden Horn Award for Best Supporting Actress in a TV Drama Series for her portrayal of Dezi in 2011’s Otelo Burning.³

Though Nolwazi had become a household name because of her acting skills, she still ventured into behind the camera work. She became a casting director for numerous TV shows and films, such as Rhythm City, Nothing For Mahala, MTV Shuga, AboMama, to name a few. She also worked as a Casting Director and as a Business Developer for a Global Tech company.

Nolwazi is married to Umlilo actor Mzwandile Ngubeni and were blessed with two children. They two met in 2010 through work and got married in 2016 in a traditional wedding in Durban. According to News24 the wedding was attended by celebrities such as Samkelo Ndlovu, Akhumzi Jezile, Jessica Nkosi, Khaya Mthethwa and many others.
