In Capetown, in the Western Cape Province of South Africa, on March 3, 2000, Luke Fleurs was born. Luke Fleurs began participating in soccer as an atender. At thirteen years old, he began playing soccer. He was raised in Mitchells Plain, but in 2013—when he was just 13 years old—he signed up for the Ubuntu Cape Town academy and moved to Fish Hoek. At the age of 24, Fleurs was shot and killed during a carjacking on April 3, 2024. According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, “he was confronted by two armed males while waiting to be served by the attended ndant.” He was shot in the upper body by the assailants at a gas station in a Florida suburb of Johannesburg, and they made off with his car. According to the South African Premier Division, on April 6 and 7, there was a moment of silence at all first- and second-tier games in honor of Fleurs.

Regarding Fleurs’ passing, South African Football Association president Danny Jordaan released a statement.The sad and tragic news of this young life’s passing reached us when we woke up. His friends, family, teammates, and football as a whole are all devastated by this loss. Everybody here is saddened by the loss of this young man. According to the statement, Jordaan wished for the peace of his beloved soul. Masondo stated that as of right now, no one has been taken into custody. [3]
