Mia le Roux is a 28 year old South African beauty pageant model. She won the Miss South Africa 2024 contest and she is the first disabled person with hearing disability to win the contest. Mia was born in 1996 in Sasolburg, Free State province in South Africa. She was raised in Oudtshoorn.

Early life of Mia le Roux
Mia le Roux was born in 1996 in Sasolburg, Free State province in South Africa. She was raised in Oudtshoorn with her brother Schalk le Roux by their parents Liesel and Schalk le Roux.
Le Roux was diagnosed with profound hearing loss at the age of one. At the age of two her community rallied behind her to make financial contributions to make sure she receives a cochlear implant to help her hear for the first time.
“Family, friends and strangers rallied to raise funds for this operation – a life-changing opportunity that allowed me to hear. It was also the start of a long journey to listen to sound and connect with the world through speech, a journey that also has taught me to never give up.” She said.
Education of Mia le Roux
Mia received her basic education in Oudtshoorn and after that she went on to further her studies at higher education level. She is currently studying for a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing as a part time at Unisa.
Career of Mia le Roux
Mia worked as a markers manager for start up companies before joining Miss South Africa beauty pageant. In 2024 she joined Miss South Africa beauty pageant and came out as the winner of the contest. Mia le Roux has got hearing disability but she is aided to hear by cochlear implant she received as a toddler. This hearing impairment makes her the first Miss South Africa contestant with hearing impairments to win the beauty contest in South Africa.
Winner of beauty pageant competition
After winning the beauty pageant competition against all odds, Mia received R1 million and other benefits. These benefits include sponsorship package that includes the use of a serviced apartment at the lavish Brookfield at Royal in Kensington, developed by Tricolt, for the year of her reign with homeware and accessories by Woolworths Home and gorgeous furniture by Schönn. She will also get to drive a Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupé for the next 12 months.
In her speech following her win of the competition, Mia said as a little girl she never thought one day she will be Miss South Africa. She said she is an inspiration to other little girls with disabilities that they can make it too if they are determined and work hard. Winning Miss South Africa 2024 means Mia le Roux will represent South Africa at Miss Universe beauty pageant competition.
In the future, Mia would like to help those with hearing disability to receive cochlear implant if they can’t afford it. “I aspire to eventually help provide cochlear implants to those who cannot afford it and give them the same gift my community has given me,” Le Roux said.
