She was born to Jabu Nkosi and Nhlanhlayethu Ntuli in Empangeni in KwaZulu Natal Province in South Africa. She had her earlier childhood in Empangeni but she relocated to Eshowe to live with her father after the separation of her parents. This is when her mother had remarried another man. According to Jessica, living with her father was great, she daddy’s little girl.

Her father was her biggest fan when she started pursuing modelling career in her early teenages. But things turned out bad when her father got gravely ill.

She looked after him while he was sick until the time of his death. When her father died, Jessica who loved her father dearly thought it was better if she could die as well. “I thought it would be better if I walked out and got hit by a car and died as well,” she said channel 24. [ ¹]

Jessica Nkosi attended and obtained her basic education including matric in the accredited schools in Richards Bay. When she finished her matric, she enrolled at University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) to study law. But she dropped out of law school in pursuit of her dream of becoming an actress.

So, she switched courses and register for drama studies in her second year of studying law. She realized that she loves acting while at the University. According to her, the university gave her exposure to other careers and acting was the one that stole her heart. When she switched to acting, she didn’t notify her parents nor any family member.

Upon finishing her studies at UKZN, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Drama and Performance degree from the university. While studying at UKZN, Nkosi concurrently received training in theatrical performances which was of aid in her acting career. [ ²]

When she finished her studies, she relocated to Johannesburg to pursue her career in acting. She landed her first acting job in 2013. She played the role of Qondi, a sweet and beautiful rural girl who finds herself falling in love with tough guy Fezile, in Mzansi Magic telenovela which turned out to be soapie opera Isibaya.

On the drama she played alongside Thembi Nyengeni and Siyabonga Twala. For playing Qondi on the drama, Jessica was nominated for the royal Soapies Awards. She was also awarded Favourite actress at the 2016 YOU Spectacular Awards for the role.
