In recent government reports, it was revealed that South Africa has a large number of young parents abandoning their children and not supporting them. It’s never justifiable to do so, but to our surprise, our favourite celebrities are also on that list of being irresponsible.
Number 1: Dumisani Dlamini
Actor and dancer Dumisani Dlamini who is also known for acting in Sarafina has got a daughter in United States whom he allegedly abandoned. His daughter’s name is none other than the famous singer and rapper Doja Cat, whom he had with his girlfriend Deborah Sawyer back in the 90s during his tour with Mbongeni Ngema.
After his daughter was born, it is alleged that Dumisani never spend time with his daughter because he was busy on a Broadway tour with Ngema’s crew. Doja Cat also claim that she never met her father in person but her father say otherwise, claiming that her management team blocked communications with his daughter in fear of losing her to him.
Number 2: Sophie Ndaba
In March 2024 Sophie Ndaba found her self trending on social media platforms after she got accused by a certain woman of abandoning her while she was still young. Basically this woman was claiming to be Sophie Ndaba’s child alleging that Sophie gave her up for adoption.
This happened after Sophie posted that she was ready for marriage again following her series of divorces. The woman who claimed to be Sophie’s daughter is not known by name yet. She posted the following tweet on X saying, “Would you all believe if I told you all she is my mother who gave me up for adoption.”
Number 3: Andile Nebulane
Another celebrity to be accused of being a dead beat by his baby mama because he has abandoned his child is Andile Nebulane. The woman by the name of Amanda Waller came via X formerly Twitter to accuse Andile in May 2023, “Please stay away from this man. His name is Andile Nebulane, better known as Dali from ‘Generations’.
He’s a deadbeat that sleeps around, impregnates women and then abandons his children,” she wrote. The woman added that Andile is an alcoholic who masquerade as a present father but disappears for weeks on a drinking spree leaving his children hungry.
Number 4: Siyabonga Shibe
Popular actor Siyabonga Shibe had no lack of controversy in recent years as it was reported that he had abandoned his daughter. Her daughter’s name whom he had abandoned is Nomthandazo who came into his life some years back. When she suddenly appeared in his life, it is alleged that Siyabonga stopped to support his own mother who had shown his daughter her way to him.
Number 5: Lennox Bacela
Another well known person and soccer player to be brought to shame for abandoning his child is Lennox Bacela. The soccer player’s baby mama took her grievances to X and twitted that Bacela was a dead beat who didn’t want to support his child.
It looks like the two had an affair back in the days and this woman whose name is Nomusa had a child with Lennox. During her pregnancy, she kept him updated, but Lennox showed no interest to support her. Even when their child was born, Lennox never showed up until she eventually take the matter to social media.
Number 6: Vusi Kunene
House of Zwide actor Vusi Kunene once got under fire in 2014 for not prioritizing his own child for 17 years. According to Sunday World report, Vusi had a child with actress Grace Mahlaba who was known for acting in former etv soapie Backstage as Ipeleng. Unfortunately, Vusi had not been supportive to his daughter and subtly abandoned her.
So, his ex and baby mama decided to take him to court to settle the matter. She also revealed that she was not getting jobs since she left Backstage and it was difficult for her to support her daughter alone.
Number 7: Presley Chweneyagae
In 2023, Presley Chweneyagae, an actor known for film called Tsotsi, was also under fire from his baby mama who was accusing him of being a deadbeat and not supporting his child. She alleged that Presley had totally abandoned his child of 16 years of age. It appears like Presley used to support this child and was a present father but later on stopped supporting his son.
She tried to contact him and make him aware that things are getting difficult in terms of raising their child, but Presley never answer the phone and showed no interest. So, the woman, the mother of his child decided to take the matter to Moja Love’s show Papgela to expose him.
Number 8: Stoan Seate
Musician and Kwaito artist Stoan Stoan Seate got into trouble with social media users when Ntsiki Mazwai decided to expose him as an absent father who was not supportive. Mazwai took to social media to talk about absent fathers and decided to give Stoan as an example of an absent father who masquerade as family a man. This angered Stoan to reply with obscenity and vulgar language cussing her.
Number 9: Peter Mashego
Gomora actor Peter Mashego has been called a deadbeat dad by his ex wife for totally abandoning his child and being supportive for 11 years. According to reports from iHarare.com the actor was supposed to pay R3000 a month of maintenance towards his two children who were 15 and 24 years old by then . But the actor had allegedly stopped paying for children support in 2009 and was owing about R396 000 to his children maintenance.
Number 10: Melusi Yeni
Back in 2014 actor and singer Melusi Yeni who was known by then for acting in Muvhango was taken to court by his baby mama for abandoning her when she was pregnant with their child. Melusi was looking for a way to run away from supporting his own child thus totally abandoning the child.
Fortunately for the child, Melusi was taken to court so that he can take care of his own child. At first Yeni refused that the child was his until he was taken for DNA tests which came showing that it was his child. Maybe he was just afraid of taking care of a child who is not his, but deciding to run away was very cowardice of him.
Number 11: SK Khoza
Another celebrity who was under fire for not taking care of his child was SK Khoza. He was accused by his baby mama Gogo Maweni of not taking care of their child by not paying child support. In other news it was said SK was abandoning his son who was in hospital. This was according to SurgeZirc website publisher. As for not taking care of his child with Maweni, SK had to trend after the Sangoma and baby mama took all the details of negligence to social media.
Number 12: Dingaan Mokebe
Muvhango actor and television presenter Dingaan Mokebe once accused House of Zwide actress Tsholo Matshaba of denying him access to their child in a radio interview. However, Tsholo denied those claims saying Dingaan never made any efforts to see his child. By the look of things, if Tsholo was telling the truth then we can safely say, Dingaan abandoned his child and put the blame on the mother.
Number 13: Hlomla Dandala
The last one on our list is Hlomla Dandala who was taken to court in 2013 by his baby mama for not taking care of his child. Hlomla was not happy with the approach of his baby mama but eventually agreed to take responsibility of his actions. “I just learnt I’m being sued for child maintenance. She will have to do better than accuse me of not taking care of my kids. “Said Hlomla Dandala.
