Zonke Mchunu was born on 12 October 1993 in Maphumulo village, Stanger in the province of KwaZulu Natal in South Africa. Her full name is Siziwe Ntombizonke Mchunu. And she was raised by her mother who was a cleaner at Zonke’s former high school. Her father died when she was 11 and she has four older sisters and one brother, who’s the youngest of everyone.

After Matric, she went to Berea Tech to study Civil Engineering but she couldn’t finish because of financial problems at home. She applied for financial aid at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) and they accepted her for drama. So, she studied theatre and drama. And she believes that her course which involved script writing, music and theatre makeup helped her to learn communicative skills.
Acting career of Zonke Mchunu
Zonke Mchunu grew up loving to dance rather than acting. She enjoyed watching Jika Majika and Sarafina so that she could dance like them. She believes dance heals her. The Muvhango star, Miss Mchunu, started acting on Uzalo which plays on SABC1 as an extra. On Uzalo, Zonke acted as singer in the choir.
She then attended acting workshops run by Duma Ka Ndlovu for more than a year. According to Zonke, the workshops of Duma Ka Ndlovu helped her to get deep into acting and get approved for her current role on Muvhango after being auditioned. She is currently playing Imani Nkosi on Muvhango, a young sweet girl from KwaZulu Natal who came to Joburg to study and work.

On the 30th of March 2021, while Zonke was shopping. A fan started following her around in the store. At first she thought this lady was just a shy fan trying to ask for a picture. Little did she know, the apparent fan kept on following her. However, Zonke did not think it was anything serious and continued with her shopping. After some time bumping into the same lady numerous times, finally the fan acts.

The alleged fan pushed Zonke from the back and asked her how she could walk the streets knowing she’s a homewrecker. At this point Zonke thought it’s just an over enthusiastic fan but, she meant business. The lady kept fighting and even tried poking Zonke in the eye. That’s when she knew this was serious, but before she could do any harm, a gentleman intervened and saved the day. But, the incident remained in Zonke’s mind and left her reconsidering her career path.
