Early life of Linda Sokhulu

Linda Sokhulu was born on 13 September 1976 in Durban, KwaZulu Natal Province in South Africa. She grew up Umlazi in KwaZulu Natal where she learned all African roots that build her.

Education of Linda Sokhulu

She matriculated in 1994 from Cambridge College in Durban, where she enrolled. She studied fashion design at Natal Tech for two years but dropped out since she realised it wasn’t the career path she wanted to pursue. Then she went on to study for a BCOMM at UNISA for four years and work with Repp Theatre for Life in 2003.

How Linda Sokhulu’s career began?

In 1997, she began her career by performing in plays at the Durban Playhouse. She went on a long study break. In 2003, she relocated to Johannesburg to work for an educational theatre group. Schools Macbeth and Izwe Lezathini were her two appearances with the Play House.

She has performed in a number of theatre productions throughout the years, including Closer, You Fool, How Can The Sky Fall, and Romeo and Juliette, to mention a few. Sokhulu has also done work with independent companies focusing on children’s theatre, including The Sky is Red with Artists in a Container and A Doggy Tale with the Actors Co-op.

Television career of Linda Sokhulu

She began her career in television in 2005, appearing in a number of dramas and features. She played Cleo Khuzwayo, a lively, sassy ex-hooker in the SABC1 soapie Generations until February 2007. In 2007 she starred as Nomathemba in miniseries Ubizo (The Calling), in which she played an ambitious microbiologist on the fast track to success whose life is turned upside down when she is contacted by her ancestors through her dreams.

She is the youngest of four siblings on the programme, and she lost her mother when she was seven years old. Tumi’s father, a polygamist, manages a number of lucrative businesses in which her siblings are involved, but she chose to pursue her education instead.
