Early life of Lamiez Holworthy

Lamiez Holworthy was born on 12 June 1992. Her real name by the way, is not Ntokozo Dlamini. She was born and raised in Eesterust in Gauteng Province of South Africa. She also grew up in Laudium in Gauteng Province where she had most of her childhood.

Her mother is of Indian coloured and her father is black. Growing up in Laudium, an Indian and coloured community, was not easy for her who believes the community was racist. She was dark skinned but her siblings were light skinned with long hair but her mother made sure she doesn’t feel any how less of her child.

Lamiez described her mother as a very supportive person who chose her over colourism community, “Growing up, my mom never treated us differently — I didn’t even notice that I was darker, and that my siblings had longer, softer hair. She had this ‘black child’ that others didn’t know how to define but, she chose me over her family on numerous occasions.” Said Lamiez Holworthy.

She attended Andrew Anthony Primary, then, Sunnyside Primary and later on, Kwaggasrand Primary. She also attended Pro Arte Alphen Park from grade 8 to 9. After that she attended Laudium Secondary School where she obtained her matric in 2009. In 2012 she enrolled to study media at the Boston Media House.

How she began her career as DJ Lamiez Holworthy

Her career began in 2010 when she was just 17 years old. In order to fit well in the black community, DJ Lamiez taught herself vernacular languages. Her mother was retrenched the same year she began her DJing career, so, Lamiez had to drop out of her tertiary education. That same year her mother took her hard earned money to buy Lamiez DJing equipment. [ ¹]

She started her career in high school by guest presenting on a show called KMTV on Soweto TV. By the year 2013, DJ Lamiez had made a name for herself. So, she entered into showbiz starting off as a guest DJ doing a mix on DJ Malwela’s show on Tshwane FM.

Presenting on Living The Dream on Tshwane TV was really a stepping stone in her career. For she landed a presenting job on SABC 1 music show Live AMP after that. Presenting on Live Amp was her biggest role in television career. It is almost a decade since she began her career, now she is the official full-time DJ for Sun City Resort and the official Miss South Africa DJ for the past two years.

She co-hosted the Metro FM dance show Penthouse Session with South African DJ and presenter Lulo Cafe in April 2021. She hosted the 27th South African Music Awards in July 2021. DJ Lamiez released her debut single “Sthokoze” in August 2021, featuring The Lowkeys and Drip Gogo. Later that year, at the South African Amapiano Awards, she was nominated for Best Amapiano Female DJ Act.

Lamiez Holworthy is married to Khuli Chana, South African rapper. When they got married, she officially became a step mother to Khuli Chana’s daughter from his previous relationship. Lamiez and Chana met at Khuli Chana’s birthday party event in 2018 and it was love at first site for thd couple. So, they’ve been together since then as they even tied a knot.

Their relationship is strong because at home they dont refer to each other as celebrities. They are husband and wife. The two were blessed with a son together and their are living their dreams.

Philanthropic activities

She started her own philanthropic foundation, the Lamiez Holworthy Foundation. The foundation provides aid for orphanages and safe houses for abused, abandoned HIV infected and affected children. The foundation also focusses on funding students from disadvantaged backgrounds with study materials, financial aid and sponsors. [ ²]

The couple adopted an orphanage home which they run together. The orphanage is called Galaletsang Orphanage based in Pretoria. “We have been taking care of them for the past year with no sponsors, no funding, just money from our pockets. It’s been Khulane, my mom and I making Christmas special for them,” Lamiez says. [ ³]
