Maphumulo was born in Umlazi, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, on November 24, 1980. Her parents passed away when she was 13 years old. She later raised her aunt. [1]

Personal life of Mbali

Her relationship with fellow actor Dumisani Mbebe began in 2009, and they have been married since 2016. When she was 21 years old, in 2001, she received a breast cancer diagnosis.After that, she had a mastectomy. But in 2006, the cancer came back.

Career of Thandiwe Mbali Maphumulo

In 1997, Mbali Maphumulo started working in the entertainment sector. She began by competing in the Shell Road to Fame talent competition. She spent some time in Pretoria working with a theater group.

Later, the actress moved to Gauteng, South Africa’s smallest province. She found employment and put in two weeks there. Her abilities let her stand out after she was cast in the theatrical production of Umoja – Spirit of Togetherness. Maphumulo appeared in The Lion King as a performer. She produced solo tracks for both Umoja and The Lion King. In 1997, she won the title of Miss Kaizer Chiefs, which launched her modeling career. [2]

In 2008, the actress performed the role of Fikile in the SABC2 soap opera Muvhango. Later in 2010, she was cast as Amira Mokoena, the series’ principal character, in the e.tv drama 4Play: Sex Advice for Girls.

Mbali starred in the Mzansi Magic miniseries Abangani, which aired in 2013. She was also chosen for the role of Isibaya in the telenovela, which aired on Mzansi Magic.

Maphumulo portrayed Stella in the Tempy Pushas drama series on SABC1. In 2016, she played Nomonde in the Mzansi Magic drama Is’thunzi. In 2015, the seasoned actress made an appearance in the e.tv anthology series eKasi: Our Stories. She came back for Is’thunzi season 2.

Mbali portrayed Cebile Buthelezi in the television series Hush Money. Her role as Wenzile Nhlapo in Uzalo is highly remembered. She has also appeared in the movies Safe Bet and State Enemy No. 1. In 2020, Mbali Maphumulo made an appearance in the Moja Love TV show Erased. [3]

Breast Cancer Diagnosis

It takes courage and strength to combat cancer. When Mbali Maphumulo fought cancer twice, she demonstrated both. The actress had a breast cancer diagnosis in 2001.

She claimed that the illness caused her to experience agony when breathing in and out. Even after a doctor’s appointment, her breasts began to itch. Her breast continued to itch, and as a result, pimples and discolouration developed.

She requested a biopsy, which is when the doctor found out she had breast cancer. Mbali Maphumulo’s cancer entered remission, but it came back in 2005.
