Siyabonga Sepotokele is a 26-year-old South African actor and singer well known as Lehasa on Keeping Score SABC 2. He appeared on Impilo, Isibaya, as Njabulo on The River and is currently playing Donald Nondumo on 1Magic television drama Lingashoni.

Siyabonga Raymond Sepotokele was born on 23 October 1995. He was born and bred in Soweto in Gauteng Province, South Africa. Siya grew up around older people which he believes gave him a taste for music. His talents in music became obvious while in grade 6 at Sivuleleni Primary School where he started singing. Most people referred to little Siya aa “special kid” because of his unique charisma. His late mother, Phyllis Sepotokele, would go around telling people about her son’s talent and for this reason Siya call his mother his first agency.
In grade six he was introduced to one of South Africa’s renowned producers, Tsietsi Mofokeng. Tsietsi groomed and trained him, and he started singing classical music at the age of 13. While many would argue that artistry is just aptitude, with Siyabonga Raymond Sepotokele, you would say otherwise. His life made a great turn when he got a scholarship at a private school in Sandton called St. David’s Private school. Here he stumbled into a major production that was in the pipeline at the school.

Siya attended Sivuleleni Primary school, then he was awarded a bursary to go and study at St David’s Marist Inanda private School. “In my head, I was going to complete my studies at Sivuleleni Primary, followed by Bona Comprehensive School then Selelekela or Bhukulani High School, to do the same-old conventional subjects. St David’s Marist Inanda showed me that there was more to life by exposing me to arts subjects,” says Siya. He studied music, geography and business studies but he had chosen maths and biology.
Acting career of Siya Sepotokele
Siya Sepotokele did not study for acting. One of his first television roles was a small cameo role on the fourth season of the Mzansi Magic soapie isiBaya, in mid-2016. In 2019 he appeared on four shows which aired at the same time: Mzansi Magic’s The Republic and 1Magic’s Grassroots, Impilo: The Scam and The River, where he’s played Njabulo for three seasons. Siya is also known for his starring role as Lehasa, Mmamosa’s youngest son who inherited his mother’s looks, s.e.x appeal and mind for money, in the SABC2 telenovela Keeping Score. ¹
In 2020 Siya landed a role of Sechaba on Muvhango SABC2 soapie. Sechaba was a cancer survivor, doctor and love interest to Imani (Zonke Mchunu). Then in 2021 he landed a role of Donald Nondumo on Lingashoni season 1. Donald recently married Mr Cele’s (by Patrick Mofokeng) daughter Mpumi (by Lerato Nxumalo). And Siya announced in July that he will be returning to The RIVER where he portrays the character of a handsome mining manager who initially shook the viewers and the Dikana’s when he revealed his s.e.xuality. As the storyline goes on he finds himself caught up between a secret lover (Mondli) and a fiancé whom his family helped build his life (Andile). ²
Music career of Sepotokele
Siya is currently working on an album. Though he dropped out of music school he never gave up on music. “I am currently in studio working with a very dope producer; I’ve got a very good friend of mine writing all the stuff that I am going to be recording. People should be on the lookout for my music offering which will definitely be out before the end of this year,” he said.
