He signed up with Mamelodi Sundowns in 2014, and after impressing with the club’s youth squad, he was elevated to serve as one of Mangoba Mnggaithi and Alex Bapela’s assistant managers under manager Pitso Mosimane. Before taking on a position as Milutin Sredojevié’s assistant manager at Orlando Pirates, Mokwena remained at Masandawana until 2017, during which time he assisted the team in winning the 2016 CAF Champions League championship.
