Biography background

Nokwanda Khuzwayo, born January 15, 1985, is a South African actress, singer and dancer well known for her role on Imbewu as Ntombifuthi Bengu. She is born and bred in Umlazi in KwaZulu Natal. Nokwanda has an identical twin sister, Nokubonga Khuzwayo and they act as cousins on Imbewu the seed.

Nokwanda and Nokubonga attended Umlazi Comtech. After finishing school at Umlazi Comtech they didn’t know what they wanted to do so they enrolled at Coastal KZN TVET College, a technical school that focuses on commerce.

Their mom, Nokuthula Xulu-Khuzwayo, was an unemployed widow with five girls to feed “and this forced us to go out there and look for a job”. Nokwanda worked as a waitress in Durban, while Nokubonga worked at a call centre in Mount Edgecombe.

They held not these jobs for too long as they felt it wasn’t their dream. So they decided to open a hair salon so they can assist their mother to support their impoverished siblings.

The hair salon transcended the twins’ life to another level, because they used the money they got from acting to finance their dreams of acting, dancing and singing.

Nokwanda Khuzwayo career

Nokwanda started acting on international stages. In 2003, the inseparable pair participated in a play called Madiba’s Magic Song, which they performed at the Grahamstown Arts Festival.

Later, Nokwanda got a role on Imbewu the seed as Ntombifuthi Bengu, the daughter of Pastor Pakhade Bengu. They got this role because Duma KaNdlovu was looking for two actors who looked alike, so after auditions, Nokwanda and her twin got the job.

Nokwanda Pregnancy and death of her child

Nokwanda became pregnant in her 20s and had to take a break from acting to raise her baby. Tragedy struck when the little girl became ill at the age of two and passed away.
