Khama Billiat is a 31 year old Zimbabwean professional football player. He is currently playing for South African Premier Division club Kaizer Chiefs as a midfielder and for the Zimbabwe national team.

Early age of Khama Billiat

Khama Billiat was born on 19 August 1990 at Mufakose Clinic in Mashonaland East, Harare in Zimbabwe. He was born to Rosa and Mustafo Billiat, a Caps United soccer player. Khama started his grade one at Marimba primary school. Then he was transferred to Gwinyiro primary school in Mufakose in 1998. By the time he was doing Grade 3 he started playing soccer for his school. Growing up Khama was inspired by his uncle Cheche Billiat who used to play for CAPS United as well as Alois Bunjira who both were his role models. When he was doing Grade 5, his soccer skills attracted the attention of Marc Duvillard who offered to pay for his school fees and needs. In his sixth grade, he was already boarding planes to feature in football tournaments under Aces Academy.

Playing for CAPS United FC, Ajax Cape Town

Billiat started as a junior player at Aces Youth Soccer Academy. In 2010 he joined CAPS United FC coached by Lloyd Chitembwe. He featured for 15 minutes at Rufaro Stadium before relocating to South Africa. On 20 August 2010 he made his professional debut appearance playing for Ajax Cape Town in a match against Mamelodi Sundowns. It was a quarter final match for the 2010 MTN8 tournament at Athlone Stadium. The match initially ended as a 1- 1 draw then Ajax won the match with 4- 3 at penalties. In the summer of 2010 the star was transferred from CAPS UNITED FC to Ajax Cape Town three months after joining Caps U.

On 21 July 2012, Ajax Cape Town played a match against Manchester United which ended in a 1-1 draw. After the match Billiat received high praise from Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand. Ferdinand labelled the young attacking midfielder as an agile and exciting player to watch, with great speed and ball control.

Playing for Mamelodi Sundowns

In July 2013 Billiat joined Mamelodi Sundowns on 19 August 2013 on a five year contract. On 28 August 2013 he made his debut appearance for Mamelodi Sundowns in 1-1 match against Platinum Stars. A month later he scored his first goal for the club in match against Bidvest Wits. In 2016 he assisted Mamelodi Sundowns to claim their first ever continental title, and the first ever in South Africa.

Billiat playing for Kaizer Chiefs

In June 2018 Billiat was signed by Kaizer Chiefs about a month after his contract with Mamelodi Sundowns had ended. He was signed for a three year deal. On 4 August 2018 he made his first positive contribution to the team in 1-1 draw against his former club Mamelodi Sundowns.

International career of Billiat

Khama started his international career in 2011. He represented Zimbabwean National Team (The Worriers) various times at youth level before getting promoted. In 2013 he appeared in several Africa Nations Cup qualifying matches and other friendly matches. On 26 March 2013, Billiat made his Senior debut appearance for the Worriers at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in match against Mali. That same year he scored his first goal for his national team in a friendly match against Zambia.

Billiat also played for the Zimbabwean national team at the 2017 edition of the African Cup of Nations. Then in November 2021 he was named the Captain of Zimbabwe in the Fifa World Cup qualification match. On 15 November 2021, Billiat confirmed that he had retired from International football career. He released his resignation letter for Zimbabwe National Team and he expressed his gratitude to Zimbabwe and the Worriers’ officials.

Achievements of Khama Billiat

In 2016 Billiat was awarded Premier Soccer League Player of the Season and midfielder of the season. His contribution to clubs including Mamelodi Sundowns winning three Premier Soccer League from 2013 to 2016, Nedbank Cup in 2014 /2015 season, Telkom Knockout in 2015, CAF Champions League in 2016 and CAF Super Cup in 2017. ¹

Billiat is married to Esnath Munyedawo. The couple were blessed with a daughter. In January 2021 it was reported that Khama had married a second wife by the name of Nomcebo Mthethwa, a South African TV presenter, singer and former actress. But Billiat denied these allegations saying he is happily married to his wife, Mai Kim (the mother to his daughter Kim). “Khama has one wife, Mai Kim, I never married anyone. I don’t know why people are doing this. I repeat I am happily married to Mai Kim” he said.

In 2014 it was reported that Khama had been involved in an extramarital affair with Beverly Sibanda, a dancer and entertainer. This rumor was confirmed after Beverly had put the star, Billiat on her WhatsApp profile picture. ²
