Most young people today dream of becoming actors, artists, musicians, influencers and models
but they’ve no clue about how to achieve this dream.
So, in this article we are going to discuss how to become an actor and an influencer.

The following six steps are required in order to become an actor or an influencer

  1. Be literate
  2. You must be talented
  3.  Start from the bottom
  4. Attend Auditions
  5. Upskill yourself
  6. Get an agent

Here is the elaborated six points on how you can be an actor, actress or influencer in Mzansi!

1. Be literate

Being an actor seems easy but in reality it’s not that easy because it requires a lot of input before
the results. What I mean is actors read scripts and memorize them before they start acting, this
requires one to be literate in English or one of the languages used in that acting scene.
And being literate in acting doesn’t mean to know linguistics only but if possible you need to
get some education in acting as well so that you can be a preference than others.

You can register with the SA film academy, it’s an accredited, non-profit, human capital development
facilitator and training provider. With the SA film academy you can learn and master how to act.
They offer real life training opportunities to interns via remunerated, in service training, and learn
by doing on local and international productions. For more information visit their site here safilmacademy.org!

2. You must be talented

I think its quite obvious to everyone that talent is a number one requirement for one to be an
actor. Even if you’re not educated in acting related courses, if you’re talented, passionate and
zealous you can be a good actor or an influencer. Talent opens doors for most young actors
and influencers, for an example, during auditions, judges and directors can be impressed by
your talent and chose you rather than a person who has an educational background in acting but
without talent.

3. Start from the bottom

In order to reach to the top you need to start from the bottom. If you know Drake’s song that
says,”Starting from the bottom now we’re here”, if you understand him then you will understand
me better. Who has ever reached to the top of the ladder if they never climbed step by step from
the bottom until they reach to the top? What I mean is, you need to start small, grab every
opportunity that comes your well until you build a good reputation, even if the money on the
table is small, take the acting offer because you will add that to your CV or resume for better
offering acting opportunities.

4. Attend auditions

Another thing is you need to go for auditions from different producers as much as you can.
When rejected, ask for comments on why you’re rejected so that you can use that to improve
yourself for future auditions. Never give up on yourself even after rejection, use that as a way to
improve yourself, remember Martin Manamela once said, “Rejection is direction,”. Who knows, you can be rejected for an offer of $5 and get accepted by another production that offers $10, I hope you get the point. After all use every opportunity that comes your way to get to the top.

5. Upskill yourself

We mostly know that the most skilled hunter is likely to succeed. Yes, you really need to upskill
yourself because there is a lot of competition out there. Improve your linguistic skills, be fluent
in English and at least one South African indigenous language. Always learn from the best and
improve to beat them at their own game. You know if you want to win in a highly competitive
game, play with rules of the game. Get some educational background, be talented, passionate
and learn from your mistakes, you will be the best.

6. Get an agent

Its really difficult to get an acting opportunity using talent and education alone you need to have
an acting agent in order to increase your chances of success.
