Daniel Antonia Cardoso was born on 6 October 1989 in Johannesburg, Gauteng Province in South Africa. His father is Portuguese born in Portugal and his mother is South African. When Cardoso was young he visited Portugal for trials. Growing up, Cardoso wanted to become a Veterinarian but he dropped out of school in 2003 to pursue career in football. What led to his drop out was an opportunity he had got of playing for Yebo Yes United in the Vodacom League earning R100 000.00 per month. The star advices other young people to pursue education despite him being a drop out.

Daniel participated in quite a number of trials in South Africa and Portugal. He played for youth academies including Jomo Cosmos, Orlando Pirates and Bidboys. He also played for Wits University, Sporting FC, University of Pretoria and Supersport United just to name a few.

He started his career in 2003 playing for Yebo Yes United after dropping out of school. On 11 August 2012, Cardoso made his professional debut playing for Free State Stars in 2-0 win match against Bidvest Wits at Goble Park Stadium. In 2014 he was made a vice captain of his club. In July 2014, Cardoso suffered a shin injury which ruled him out for five months. On 31 May 2015 he joined Amakhosi and signed a three year deal with the Kaizer Chiefs after agreeing to personal terms with the club.

The Amakhosi star joined the Bafana Bafana team in 2015. He made his debut appearance playing for Bafana Bafana on 25 March 2015 in 3- 1 win over Swaziland.
