Early age of Kearyn Baccus

Kearyn Baccus was born on 5 September 1991 in Durban, Kwazulu Natal Province in South Africa. His family moved to Australia while he was still young, this led to dua citizenship of South Africa and Australia. Kearyn was inspired by his brother, Keanu who is also a soccer player playing for Western Sydney Wanderers, to pursue a career in football. ¹

Youth career of Kearyn

Kearyn started his career under the Australian football club, Sydney FC. He played for this club from 2008 to 2009. In 2010 he joined Le Mans, a French association football club based in Le Mans and remained with it until 2012. This marked the foundation and the beginning of Kearyn Baccus’ football career.

As Le Mans player, he was one of the Australian from New South Wales to pursue football career in Europe. From Le Man’s Baccus later trialled at Real Sociedad and Mallorca in Spain as well as Duisburg in Germany. Unfortunately, he did not succeed in Europe. He would later come back home to try to launch his career with local clubs. His first team from Europe in the then Hyundai A-league was Perth Glory on a short-term deal. But he was disappointed by his performance due to injury and lack of fitness. This made it impossible to remain in the A-league.

After that Baccus chose to move back to Sydney where he joined Blacktown City. ²
On 6 November 2014, Baccus joined joined Western Sydney Wanderers on an injury-replacement contract, followed by signing a deal to play in the 2015 Asian Champions League before becoming a full squad member for Seasons 2015–16 and 2016–17. In October 2018 he was signed by Melbourne City FC as their attacking midfielder as a short-term injury replacement for Michael O’Halloran following a hamstring injury sustained by the Scottish midfielder.³ Then on 5 July 2019 he signed a three-year deal with South African side Kaizer Chiefs. On 1 November 2021 it was reported that Kaizer Chiefs had extended his contract with two years but there is clarity of either he will remain with Amakhosi since he wants to return to Australia.

International career

Baccus made a debut appearance internationally in 2009 playing for Australia. In 2013 he was showed that if an opportunity to play for Bafana Bafana arises he would consider it. “My heart is set with Australia to be honest but if South Africa comes knocking I will have to consider it‚” he said.
