“It is with great sadness to announce the passing of our father, brother and colleague Mr Mahuma Paul Rapetsoa. “Bra Paul” passed away today at 18:56. May your wonderful soul rest in peace Mokwena,” Matome wrote on his Facebook post.

His Legacy:

Rapetsoa’s legacy is that of legend. Most people refer to him as the father of township theatre in Limpopo and beyond. The theatre legend lit up the stage, radio shows, and tv screens. He also led the drama department of SABC radio station Thobela FM.

Mahuma Paul Rapetsoa mentored Charles “Big Boy” Maja. Charles Maja died this year and most people were saddened by his death.

On his mentorship on Maja, Mahuma Paul said, “As a trained stage actor myself, I taught Charles [that] in radio dramas you are act like [you would] in a stage or TV show. He was always hungry to learn. Even when he got a job in Skeem Saam he told me. His death is a big loss to our industry.”

Mahuma Paul will forever be remembered for his passion to uplift others, mostly the poor people. Some will obviously remember him as Josias on Skeem Saam.

In a statement, Skeem Saam said Rapetsoa would “forever be remembered and sorely missed”.

“We approach the end of 2020 with heavy hearts! Rest In Peace Bra Paul, you will forever be remembered and sorely missed We keep his family in our prayers”.

May his soul rest in peace.
