Killing or assassinating someone because of jealous or envy used to be rare long ago because of fear of God or just humanity. By then, people celebrated each other’s success but today its easy to eliminate each other because of jealous. This has happened very often in the past few decades mostly among famous people and politicians of South Africa.We will focus on 16 Mzansi Celebs Assassinations and murders that Shocked Everyone.
Number 1 is DJ Citi Lights – Cause of death – Shot to Death
A well known DJ and rapper, Sandilur Nkuluuleko “Mkhizur” was gunned down 10 times in Soweto on 14 February 2022. It was initially reported that he was gunned 8 times but a friend confirmed at his funeral that it was 10 times. The way he died was not an accident but a clear assassination. There was no clear reason for why he was killed and those who killed him were never apprehended. 
Number 2 is Senzo Meyiwa- Cause of Death- Shot to Death
Senzo Robert Meyiwa was a South African professional soccer player and the captain of both Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana. He was assassinated when he was short dead on 26 October 2014 at Kelly Khumalo’s home, who was his girlfriend by that time. Quite a number of people were arrested for his murder but no one is yet charged until today. Some of them were set free due to lack of evidence.
Number 3 is AKA – Cause of Death – Shot to Death
Kiernan Jarryd Forbes who was well-known as AKA, a rapper, a record producer and a businessman, was assassinated on 10 February 2023 in Durban, South Africa. He was scheduled to perform at Yugo nightclub in Durban as part of his birthday celebrations. Him and his friend Tebello Motsoane were standing outside the hotel when two man shot both of them dead in clear view of security cameras and fled the scene on foot. No one was arrested until today.
Number 4 is Flabba – Cause of Death- Stabbed to death
Nkululeko Habedy, a well-known South African hip hop musician and a member of a hip hop group called the Skwata Camp, Flabba, was stabbed to death by his girlfriend, Sindisiwur Manqele, in his home in Alexandra after an altercation. The unfortunate event happened in the early hours of 9 March 2015 when the couple were fighting. Sindisiwur admitted in court that she stabbed her boyfriend out of self defense since he had stab her on the stomach during the fight. She was charged with murder and served 6 years of her 12 years jail sentence and is still on parole.
Number 5 is Sibusiso Khwinana – Cause of Death- Stabbed to death
An Actor, Playwright and director, Sibusiso Khwinana, was stabbed to death by a man who was trying to rob him his cellphone. The unfortunate event happened near Sterland Mall in Arcadia, Pretoria when Khwinana and his friend were waiting for a taxi outside the mall at 11pm. After analyzing the security footages in that vicinity, the police investigators managed to apprehended his killer who was found guilty and was sentenced to life in prison. 
Number 6 is Dhumi Masilela – Cause of Death- Shot to Death
Dhumi Masilela was a South African actor, musician and a former soccer player who was killed by robbers in Tembisa while driving his Golf 7. The robbers shot him in the stomach while attempting to rob him. He died the following day in hospital due to severe injuries. With the help of CCTV, police arrested 6 men, and the hauteng high court sentenced them to life in prison after lengthy court trials. Dumi was known for acting in etv drama series Rhythm City as Sifiso Nkema
Number 7 is Brett Goldin – Cause of death – Shot to Death
A well known South African actor of the Crazy Monkey comedy troupe, was murdered in Cape Town in 2006 alongside his friend Richard Bloom, a fashion designer. The two were shot at the back of the head during a hijack. It is believed that the two were killed because they were both gays and their death spread fear in the gay community. About 11 people were initially arrested but only 6 people were charged and sentenced to at least 28 years in prison.
Number 8 is Siyanda Sesimani – Cause of death- brutally attacked
The seasoned actor of the SABC3 drama The Estate Siyanda Sesimani, was brutally beaten to the head which led to concussion and later on death. He had skull fractures and died from cardiac arrest after the doctors had done their best to save his life. Those who committed this horrific act to him are not yet arrested.
Number 9 is Lucky Dhube- Cause of Death- Shot to Death
The South African legendary reggae musician and rastafarian Lucky Philip Dhube was killed on 18 October 2007 in Rosettenville, Johannesburg. According to police report, the killers of Dhube were not send to assassinate him by anyone but they thought he was a Nigerian and they wanted rob him. Most of his fans were saddened by his death. Lucky was known for his prominent reggae songs such as “Victims”, “I’ve got you babe”, “Together as one”, Different Colors” and others. 
Number 10 is Tandeka Mdeliswa – Cause of Death- Shot to death
A South African actress, Tandeka Mdeliswa, who was best known for playing Khanya in the SABC1 drama Ikani was shot on 3 September 2020. The unlikely event took place in Evander, Mpumalanga in South Africa. She died on the 5th of September that same year due to severe injuries. Police officials investigated her murder case and they arrested 3 men in connection to her murder. In August of 2021, a man responsible for her death pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
Number 11 is DJ Sumbody – Cause of Death – Shot to death
Oupa John Sefoka who is professionally known as DJ Sumbody, a DJ and artist was shot dead in a hail of bullets on 20 November 2022 in Johannesburg. His death is quite obvious that it was an Assassination because his killers didn’t want him to live. Sefoka who broke into the industry with his hit track, “Monate mpolaye” featuring musician Cassper Nyovest, was on his way from a performance in Woodmead.
Number 12 is Rebecca SteenKamp – Cause of Death- Shot to Death
Reeva Rebecca SteenKamp was a South African model and paralegal who was shot by her boyfriend Osca Pistorius on Valentine’s day in 2013. She died on the spot according to a doctor who tried to perform a jaw-lift-manueva to open her airways and noticed she had died. In his analysis of the situation he noted that she had no peripheral pulse, showed no sign of breathing-movements, and that her pupils were fixed dilated.
Number 13 is Vucy Ma R5 – Cause of Death- Shot to Death
Vucy Ma R5 whose real name was Itumeleng Mosoeu, a musician and a Bacardi music pioneer, was shot dead on 30 January 2023. His death was obviously an assassination type of death because he just went to a car over the road. His friends later heard gun shots and later realized it was Vucy who had been shot dead. 
Number 14 is Lindiwur Chibi – Cause of Death – Shot to death
Lindiwe was a South African actress best known for playing Doobsie in a popular soapie Mubango. She was shot in her face by her boyfriend in Soweto at her mother’s home. She was rushed to the hospital where she stayed in a coma for three weeks and recovered. When she was fully recovered from her coma, she was paralyzed on one side of her body. She later died from pneumonia in Soweto, Chris Hani – Baragwanath hospital in 2007.
Number 15 is Tabang Nkonyeni – Cause of Death- Stabbed to death
Tabang Nkonyeni was a South African actress best known for her portrayal of Matlakala, Thabang’s battered wife, in the SABC1 drama series Soul City in 1999. On Tuesday, August 11, 2009, she was fatally stabbed inside her home in New Brighton, Port Elizabeth. “A domestic violence type murder” was how one witness characterized her demise.
Number 16 is Mandla Hlatswayo – Cause of Death- Shot to Death
A South African actor and media personality Mandla Hlatswayo was shot in the heart and killed during a robbery at Meli Lounge Pub in Pimville, Soweto. Two women’s cell phones were stolen by a gang of males outside the pub during the incident. When Hlatshwayo and one of his companions, Oupa “Chom-Chom” Dhuma, saw this, they attempted to save the women but were both fatally murdered by the robbers. Four people were detained the following day in connection with the narcotics and guns incident.
