Siyabonga Gcwensa was born in between the years 2004 and 2005 possibly in uMthwalume in KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. He also lived in Diepsloot, Johannesburg before finally joining etv’s television drama series Scandal.
Growing up, Siyabonga loved acting from early age back in elementary school. His dream was to appear on TV and when he landed a role on television it was a dream come true.

Siyabonga might have acted in theatres before landing his first role on television. When DiepCity, a Mzansi Magic drama series started, Siya got a role and learned from the best who starred on the very drama. When interviewed by Isolezwe, Siya admitted that big stars did helped him sharpen his acting skills.

In 2023, Siyabonga Gcwensa was introduced to Scandal as Phakamile’s younger brother Mbuso, who was serving a prison sentence at the juvenile prison. When he is released from prison, he robs malume Ndumiso’s spaza shop chillax before meeting his siblings, Phakamile (played by Lerato Nxumalo) and Nqobile (by Zekethelo Zondi). He later decides to change and become a better young man for his sisters and start to look for jobs but his past was following him behind.
