Early life of Sydney
Sydney Ramakuwela is a 33 years old South African actor and voice-over artist. He was born on 27 April 1988 in Tshitereke Village near Thohoyandou in Limpopo Province, South Africa. His mother, Betty Ramakuwela, was a street hawker selling fruit and vegetables. Sydney started acting while still in primary school where he was a member of a community theatre group. In high school, he was also involved in a radio drama for Phalaphala FM. After he matriculated in 2006 he couldn’t further his studies due to financial constraints.
Education of Sydney
After matric he couldn’t proceed with school because his mother who was a street hawker didn’t afford to. But in 2007 he was offered a job at Muvhango by Duma ka Ndlovu on the condition of going back to school. In 2008 Sydney started acting on the show and simultaneously enrolled for a logistics management course at Unisa. He graduated with a Diploma in logistics management before proceeding to B.Tech for the very same course. He furthered his acting skills by attending Word of Mouth Acting Workshops.

Sydney started acting in primary school. But the beginning of his career was when he joined and acted under Nzhelavhalimi Community Theatre Group. Then his talent was spotted by Radio Producer Dakalo Kwinda and got him starred in a radio drama on Phalaphala FM. In 2008 he started acting on SABC2 drama called Muvhango as stubborn mayor Mulalo Mukwevho. This was after Duma ka Ndlovu spotted his talent during Muvhango auditions in Venda and offer him a job on the condition of going back to school. ¹
Personal life of Sydney
Sydney is a father to his only daughter but he grew up without his father. His desire is to give his daughter the best parenting that he grew up without. “I love being a father. It is challenging sometimes, but I always make the best out of it. My wish is to become the best father to my daughter. I would love to get married one day and have my own family. I would love to do all the things I didn’t have for my children,” said Sydney. ²
Other work and giving back
Sydney goes back to his hometown to give back the skills he has acquired to other young artist in community theatres. He will be directing those community theatre plays. “I always remember where I come from and giving back to the community is something that I love doing,” said Sydney. Apart from all this, he owns and run a security company called Thizram.
