Career information
Maema’s professional football career began as a 22-year-old barely four years ago. Using his directness and ingenuity to defeat opponents and generate scoring chances, the talented left-footed attacking midfielder had a fantastic season with his local team Phunya Sele Sele in 2020/21.

First goal at Sundowns
Neo Maema scored a spectacular goal that earned him a standing ovation from veterans Themba Zwane and Denis Onyango. The Brazilians defeated Golden Arrown 3-0 (4-1 on aggregate) in the MTN 8 semi-final second leg on Tuesday evening, advancing to the final for the first time in five years.
With only five minutes on the clock, Peter Shalulile scored the game’s first goal, followed by Divine Lunga’s second goal 25 minutes later. Maema, though, delivered a moment of brilliance minutes before the final whistle in stoppage time, following what appeared to be a goalless second stanza.
