7 musicians with twins, fraternal and identical ones

It’s quite amusing to see identical twins and more confusing when you interact with them frequently, as you would confuse one with another. It’s even worse with celebrities on our television when they have identical twins, you will be thinking it’s some CGI while it’s not. Though we have covered a similar topic on celebrity twins, we specifically going to focus on seven musicians with twins, fraternal and identical ones. 

Number 1, The Shabangu Twins

Nhlanhla and Lucky Shabangu are twins which became very famous in the 90s for their RNBs hit songs which they released as the Shabangu twins. Their well-known hit song is Shona Phansi. Most people have been wondering what happened to the twins after disappearing from limelight. A lot has happened to them since then, the duo was once arrested for stealing a luxurious car worth R1million Rands in 2015.  

But later on, Nhlanhla Shabangu decided to venture into business and position himself as a savvy businessman with various business ventures.  [1]

Number 2, the Revolution duo

So, the full names of Mothiba twins are Joseph and George Mothiba who became known as the Revolution duo. The two came into spotlight in 2002 after releasing The Journey, supported by the hit single Vhavenda, it was recognised as the Best-Selling Release at the 2003 South African Music Awards. It’s quite amusing how they became famous being born in Alexandra Johannesburg. The duo met Oskido at a party who gave them advice on how to become professional DJs and it wasn’t long before they were famous.

Number 3, The Locnville 

The music duo Locnville was founded by Andrew and Brian Chaplin, identical twins from New York, United States. They formed their band while in Cape Town, South Africa where they had relocated with their parents. In February 2010, they released their debut album titled Sun in My Pocket, which became a major success. It ranked No. 1 on the RISA South African Albums Chart and later won them the award for “best newcomer” at the 2010 MK Awards. The twins are related to the late Charlie Chaplin (their grandfather was the first cousin of Charlie Chaplin). [2]

Number 4, the Qwabe twins

The beautiful twins called the Qwabe twins is a South African Afro-pop duo whose real names are Virginia and Viggy Qwabe. In 2019, Qwabe Twins competed on season 15 of Idols South Africa. Virginia Qwabe performed “Khona” by Mafikizolo featuring Uhuru on the Top 5 and was eliminated which led Viggy to withdraw from the competition as well. After signing with Afrotaiment Records, the duo released their debut album “The Gift of Love” in 2020 and their second album “Words of Hope” in 2022 which debuted number 3 in South Africa. 

Number 5, Twins on Derk  

Darren and Ryan Rigley are both into music as they are one of South African popular club DJ’s. They were born on 20 July 1989, in Cape Town’s Strandfontein.They are 31 years of age. The duo became well known in the music industry as the Twins on Derk. [3]

Number 6, Major League DJs

Major League DJs is a South African music band created by Bandile and Banele Mbere. The twin brothers were born on January 3, 1991, in Boston, the United States. Following the end of the Apartheid era, they returned to South Africa and moved to Johannesburg. The twins were influenced by music during their early days in life. The music band has made a great impact in the entertainment industry. They hail from a musical background as their father was into music. 

Number 7, The Masina twins

The twins are both radio DJ’s and TV presenters, they had a popular show on YFM and a reality show on Etv. The duo is known also for hosting music gigs and reality shows. They might not be singers and music instruments players but it’s definitely true that they are into music as Radio DJs and music gig hosts.
