Early life of Israel Matseke
Israel Matseke was born 1974 in Johannesburg, Gauteng province. He was the second oldest of his family’s five children and was born in the South African township of Alexandra, not far from Johannesburg. He attended Gordon Combined School, but regrettably, he turned to a life of crime starting in 1988. In 1996, Israel Matseke Zulu was imprisoned as a result of his home invasions.

Matseke Zulu was given an eight-year prison term, during which time he organized the Abaqobi Drama Group among the prisoners. He found work with the Victory Sonqoba Theatre Company after being freed in 1999, when he had the opportunity to audition for the acclaimed SABC1 drama series Yizo Yizo. He appeared in the eTV drama series Z’bondiwe in 2015 as Killer’s right-hand guy, Jakes Masilo. In November 2016, he made his Mzansi Magic serial opera isiBaya debut as the gangster Cyprian Gumbi. Since then, he has made numerous television and film appearances, most recently portraying Don in Gomora. Israel Matseke Zulu is best known for his roles as Skroef in Avenged and a Bracelet soldier in The Good Lie.

The South African actor has two boys but has never been married. Zulu vehemently denied the claim that he was dating socialite and musician Wabantu. Sadly, it was revealed that Tebogo, one of the celebrity’s sons, was fatally shot in 2011.

His friend Mzwakhe Sigudla ultimately persuaded him to seek medical help after several months of leg agony. Sadly, physicians found that he had gangrene, which if left untreated would start to threaten his kidneys and other limbs. He canceled the visits numerous times but eventually agreed to have his leg amputated because the pain was getting worse, according to Sunday World. He eventually had the treatment after spending four weeks in the hospital at the Rob Ferreira Hospital in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga.
