Early age of Eric Mothoho

Eric Mothoho was born on 1 March 1990 in Tshiombo, Thohoyandou in Limpopo Province, South Africa. Growing up in Venda, Eric used to play soccer with a plastic ball (made from onion sacks and plastics) in a maize field. According to Eric, playing soccer in maize field without soccer boots came with lot of unexpected injuries as you would kick the ground and tear off your toenails. ¹

Eric started his career in july 2009 when he joined Bloemfontein Celtic from Limpopo based club, Dolphins FC. He made is debut in a draw match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Celtic. Then on 27 February 2011, Eric scored his first goal in a 5- 0 win between Celtic and Supersport United. In June 2012 Mothoho Eric joined Kaizer Chiefs and made his debut appearance on this club on July 1st in a 4-1 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns. In this match, Kaizer Chiefs score the single goal in the last 36 minutes of the match.

On 13 September 2012 he suffered a shoulder dislocation in a match between Maritzburg United and Kaizer Chiefs. He scored his first goal under Kaizer Chiefs in a match between Maritzburg United against the Amakhosi that ended as 1-1 draw. In 2012/2013 season he won league title and the Nedbank Cup in his first season. Mathoho made his CAF Champions League debut on 1 March 2014 and scored against Liga Muculmana in a 4–0 win at Moses Mabhida Stadium on what was his 24th birthday. ²

Bafana Bafana career for Eric Mothoho

Eric Mothoho made his debut appearance for South African National Team on 14 May 2011 against Tanzania in an international friendly match. With the hope of securing a place in overseas clubs, Eric had to prove a pivotal figure for both club and country in 2014, playing every minute of Bafana’s successful AFCON qualifying campaign while he has also helped lead Amakhosi to a 15-point lead at the top of the Premiership. ³

He won the 2012/13 league title and the Nedbank Cup in his first season. The star has aided in Kaizer Chiefs’ victories to win Premier Soccer League, Carling Black Label Cup and Nedbank Cup in 2013. In 2014 Eric was in the 1-0 Kaizer Chiefs versus Orlando Pirates MTN 8 Cup victoria’s match at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
