Early age

Chrispen Nyathi is 28 year-old Zimbabwean-born South African actor. He was born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. As a child, Chrispen was obsessed with movies. Growing up in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, he was an only child who was raised by his grandmother and mother and he vowed he’d one day appear on TV, just like the actors he grew up watching. When I was in grade 5 we had a chance to represent a play and I only had a 10 second moment on stage, but it was in that moment that I loved acting. I didn’t think I could make a living off it but I started taking it seriously after high school.”

After being a part of multiple theatre plays and harnessing his acting talent, he finally got the chance to be on national television playing a character that many can’t help but talk about due to the drama and his great execution. [1]

Chrispen always knew which route he was going to taken since from highschool and he did not make a mistake. He said after relocating to South Africa in 2019, where he attended Denver secondary school, he gained inspiration from the South African series, Zone 2014’s Vusa Thwala through his arts nurturing school projects like Behind The Blazer which he conducted at various schools including Denver. Nyathi also added how they used to take part in Behind The Blazer after school as their principal was strict. He said the project was very effective that he managed to bag acting appearences on series like AksiSpaza, Bennelanders and accused.

Narrating how he got the DiepCity gig, Chrispen said, Mandla N. Who is behind the Black brain pictures, the producers of big city wanted fresh faces for the production, something which worked to his advantage. When Mandla N went on fresh faces quest for Vula Vala and DiepCity. Nyathi showed up and didn’t disappoint. “I took part in the auditions and got casted for the show he said.
