Early age of Gugu Gumede

Baby Cele was born on 22 March 1972 in Umlazi at Kwazulu Natal province, in South Africa. Although she loved singing, the acting bug stings her when she cast in the musical Sarafina. Mbongeni Ngema gives Baby Cele a shot when she was only 16 and she made the most out of it. “I met Mbongeni Ngema while he is driving down the road, next to my house. I didn’t even have to audition for the part in Sarafina, the musical.”[1]

Acting Career of Baby Cele

Cele gained recognition for her role as Kaltego Rathebe, a character she portrayed for eight years on the now defunct e.tv youth television soap opera Backstage. She went on to play the role of Portia in the SABC 1 sitcom My Perfect Family. In 2011, she portrayed the role of Beauty in the mini-series Shreds & Dreams, based on the 2004 play by Clare Stopford.

From 2012 to 2013, she portrayed the character of Slindile Dludlu in the Mzansi Magic telenovela Inkaba. Cele also starred as Gasta Cele in the soapie opera Zabalaza. In 2016, she portrayed the character of Sibongile Nene on Isidingo. She was also a cast member of the stage musical Sarafina!. Cele also performed in the stage play Cards. In 2018, she joined the cast of the telenovela Uzalo, where she portrays the character of Gabisile Mdletshe.

Personal life of Baby Cele

Cele is married to businessman Thabo Maloka. She is a mother of two children. Baby has been married three times now. Currently, she is married to Thabo Maloka since 2017, and she shared Baby Cele wedding pictures on Instagram. Before that, she was married briefly to Mandla Mabuza, and prior to that, she was married to another man at an early age although she left him because he was abusive.
