Mikateko made her debut appearance on television dramas in 2014 when she was just 15 years old. She always loved acting but never got a chance to appear on tv until her drama teacher helped her realize her dream when she saw her talent. Her teacher introduced Mikateko to an acting agency who assisted her to get the role of Mary on Scandal! Etv.

According to Mikateko Hlabangwane there is huge difference between her and Mary Masangwanyi, the character she portrays on Scandal. Mikateko is bubbly while Mary is shy and nedy. Mary is smart and hardworking in such a way that Mikateko admires her but she resents her uptightness.  ¹

Mikateko joined acting while she was 15 years, meaning she was a high school student. So she had to balance her studies and her newly founded entertainment career. According to Mikateko juggling two balls was never easy but with the help of her family and friends, she managed. She completed her matric in 2017 the same year her character was completing matric on our screens.

“Juggling acting and my school work is really tough, but I believe if you genuinely love something you find it in you to make it work. It’s just all about prioritising and at this point, my school work is my priority,” says Mikateko.

She now studying Civil Engineering but the institution she is attending to was never mentioned by any source. Mikateko wants to follow in her aunt Kurisani Mashele’s footsteps who is also an engineer. “I have always looked up to my aunt – she is doing so well in life and puts God in everything she does.”
