Marry Mubaiwa Chiwenga is a 40-year-old Zimbabwean ex-model and the estranged wife of the Zimbabwean vice president Constantino Chiwenga. She was the patron and chairperson of the Miss Zimbabwe Trust until her resignation in February 2018.

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission arrested Marry Chiwenga in December 2019 on allegations of fraud, money laundering, and misrepresentation. The charge of money laundering concerned the purchase of a residence in South Africa. The charge of misrepresentation stemmed from her husband, vice president Chiwenga’s, apparent misrepresentation.

Early life of Marry Mubaiwa Chiwenga

Marry Mubaiwa Chiwenga was born on 22 July 1981 in Zimbabwe. She attended Oriel Girls High School where she obtained her O-level or A-level education which is equivalent to Matriculation in South Africa.

Marry Mubaiwa was a model in Zimbabwe who rose to fame after becoming a model who got married the the retired commander of Zimbabwe Defence Forces, Constantino Chiwenga. Her career highlights include taking over as patron of the Miss Zimbabwe Trust from Kiki Divaris in 2012. She was on the verge of resurrecting the Miss Zimbabwe pageant. The 2014 Miss Zimbabwe Pageant, which was apparently full of flash and glamour, demonstrated Marry’s ability.

Marry Mubaiwa’s Philanthropic work

During her tenure as the Chairman of the Musha Mukadzi Zimbabwe Armed Forces Foundation (MZAFF), a non – profit organization that provides programs that help families of the armed forces of Zimbabwe wives and widows and children of either serving or retired soldiers as well as war veterans, Marry has pertaken work in Philanthropic work associated with this organisation. This non profit organisation is a brainchild of the vice president C.G Chiwenga and is supported by the former first lady Amai Grace Mugabe.

The Trust has aided people like Shingirayi Bushu, who died of cancer in December 2014. In July 2014, the MZAFF also gave groceries, clothing, and blankets to a woman from Highfield who had a 25 kg cyst removed from her stomach at Chitungwiza General Hospital. A military veteran who lost his sight during the Second Chimurenga received a donation of $3 500 from the trust. [ ¹]

Marry was married to a businessman Terry Mandizha later she married a footballer Shingi Kaondera. Her relationship with Terry Mandizha was blessed with a daughter and her marriage with Shingi Kaondera was also blessed with another daughter as well.

After divorcing Shingi Kaondera in 2010, Marry got married to the army commander of Zimbabwe Defence Forces Constantino Chiwenga in 2011. According to reports, he paid the Mubaiwa family US$47 000 as a bride price (lobola). They were blessed with three children; two boys and a girl who are Tendai, Christian and Michael respectively.

Former husband Kaondera sued Marry Chiwenga for $700,000 in July 2019 for what he claimed was a fraudulent divorce process. Chiwenga, according to Kaondera, faked divorce documents that ended their marriage in 2010.

Criminal charges against Marry Mubaiwa Chiwenga

On 14 December 2019 Marry was arrested and detained at Rhodesville Police Station on charges included: attempted murder – Marry reportedly pulled an intravenous drip out of her husband’s ( Constantino Chiwenga) arm when he was in hospital in South Africa, Money Laundering and Fraud of over Us$1 million and forgery. She was also being investigated on fresh charges over Musha Mukadzi funds, the daily allowances of her security aides and the Miss Zimbabwe cars during the time of her arrest.

In February 2022 the South African government seized Marry Chiwenga’s Pretoria properties which included a R14 million rands mansion and two Range Rover SUVs. A ruling delivered on February 9, 2022, by Pretoria high court judge Aubrey Ledwaba gave SA authorities permission to seize the property, pending forfeiture to the Zimbabwean government. The order was granted after an application for mutual legal assistance made by ZACC through the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to South African authorities. [ ²]

Deteriorating health of Marry Chiwenga

Marry’s husband Constantino revealed in May 2018 that the two of them were both suffering from a skin illness called Nhuta, which had caused their skin to discolour.”Just ridiculous that Chiwenga and Mary contracted nhuta at the same time!” said former government minister Jonathan Moyo. Marry and her husband were suspected of using skin bleaching products, according to the majority of individuals.

In March 2022, New-Zimbabwe reported that Doctors were saying Marry Chiwenga’s limbs were best being amputated since its deteriorating health conditions were life threatening.
