Themba Ndaba, born 14 February 1965, is a 56 years old South African actor and director. He is best known for portraying Zimele in the SABC1 drama series Soul City and as Brutus on The Queen.

Early age of Themba Ndaba

Themba Ndaba was born on 14 February 1965 in Soweto, Gauteng Province in South Africa. He was raised in the Kingdom of Swaziland where his Anglican missionary parents (Reverend TJ Ndaba). His family had relocated to Swaziland running away from the armed struggle in South Africa.

Education of Themba Ndaba

Themba attended St Mark’s High School in Mbabane, Swaziland where he matriculated in 1982 after he had started his school in 1970. After he relocated to Harare to pursue higher education. He attended Harare Polytechnic where he obtained Higher National Diploma in Business Studies with a distinction in economics and statistics. Themba went further to study Theology at Unisa and holds Theology Diploma in Leadership and Life Training.  ¹

Themba’s career began in 2002 when he formed a group called Vutha Advertising Agency with his other fellow workers. In that group Themba served as the creative director. His television debut appearance happened when he appeared on Soul City playing Zimele and later he appeared on Hopeville. Themba has appeared on several dramas such as Rhythm City as Troll, on Gomora season one as Mbongeni. He played Madlisa on Mfolozi Street season one and Silas Mhlaba Ziqubu on The Road Season one. He is best known for playing Brutus Khoza on The Queen from its inception in its first season to season six. ²

Themba also appeared on international films and short films. He appeared on Machine Gun Preacher, Hopeville from 2009 to 2010, Cry the Beloved Country, Life Above All and A Good Man in Africa just to name a few.

Awards and nominations of Themba Ndaba

In 2009 he was nominated Outstanding Actor for Hopeville, the merit was Golden Nymph Awards for Monte- Carlo Television Festival. In 2010 he won two awards, the first was the Best Actor in Leading Role on Hopeville at African Movie Academy Awards 2010, Nigeria and the second one was the Best Lead Actor at for Hopeville at South African Film and Television Awards, South Africa. Then in 2017 he won the Best Actor Award for his role Brutus at Dstv Mzansi Viewer’s Choice Awards.

In 2019, Themba denied his second nomination for Best Actor Award for his role Brutus from The Queen, awarded by Dstv. His justification was that, other long-standing nominees should be given a chance.

Themba Ndaba was married to Sophia Mphasane Ndaba in 1998 but they got divorced in 2007 and no reason was given for their separation. His first marriage was blessed with one child, Lwandle Ndaba. After divorce, Themba got into a second marriage 4 years later. He was married to Josey Ndaba.
