Noxolo Maqashalala

Noxolo Maqashalala (1977 – March 2021) was a South African actress often known by the name Noxee. She was most known for her work in Diamond City, Generations and Rhythm City. In the month of March 2021, the actress was found dead in her room. And according to the report, she had been dead for over two weeks. So, in this article we will look into her life, career and death.

Early life of Noxolo Maqashalala

Maqashalala was born in KwaBhaca, Eastern Cape. As much as she’d been in the industry. Not much was known about her childhood or how she grew up. So, her birthplace is about as much as we know about her early life.

Maqashalala break-out role was as Viwe in the first three seasons of youth drama series Tsha Tsha from 2003 to 2005. Moreover, she also appeared in the SABC 1 shows Generations, Binnelanders, Dream World and Intersexions. As well as the SABC 2 show Gauteng Maboneng, and e.tv‘s Rhythm City, Easy Money, Mzansi Love and The Kingdom – uKhakhayi. She also starred in the SABC 1 legal drama Diamond City in 2018 and was credited as an executive producer on the show. Diamond City later also aired on Netflix.

How Maqashalala Noxee Died

On the 12th of March 2021, Noxee was found dead at her Johannesburg home. At the age of 44. The Eastern Cape arts, culture, sport and recreation MEC Fezeka Nkomonye commended her as being exemplary in the arts and called her death “a blow to the industry”. South Africa’s minister of sport, arts and culture, Nathi Mthethwa, called her “a sterling performer who gave her best at every role that she took on”.

Apparently someone went over to her apartment to drop something off. Then they realized something was off and saw her dead body. The unnamed person immediately called the police and an investigation was initiated.

In the preliminary report, the police said that forensic evidence suggested. She had been dead for about a week. Moreover, the report revealed that the cause of death was less likely to be homicide. Since there were no signs of forced entry, neither did her body show trauma or a struggle. Her body was found nearly decomposed at the time of the discovery. She was in her blankets, showing that she died in her sleep.

Post moterm and controversial backlash

After her death, the incident entered the courts of public opinions. And, the public was very angry at the family asking why they didn’t check up on her for weeks. However, in response to the public speculations. The family mentioned that Noxee had quite a busy schedule most times. Which made it a very occasionally acceptable thing to go on for at least 2 weeks without talking to her.

However, after she had not answered her phone for about a week. Her brother sent someone to check on her. And the person sent wasn’t let in, since the security had to check in with the resident before letting him in. After, a bit of back and forth, the two figured out something was off and went on to check in the house. To which a gruesome discovery was made.
