Maumela Mahuwa, born on 16 March 1980 (age – 41 years old), is a South African actress well known for her leading role as Suzan on Muvhango SABC2.

Early life of Maumela Mahuwa
Maumela Mahuwa is a 41 year-old South African actress and singer born on 16 March 1980. She was born and raised in Venda, Limpopo Province in South Africa. She was raised by her mother, grandmother, aunt and uncle. According to her she was raised by a village and met her father for the first time when she was 23 years old at the funeral of her brother. ¹
Maumela’s mother preferred her brother over her because she was dark skinned. Her mother went on on to abandon her and she had to live on her own in Mamvuku for an entire year. She offered to wash dishes and scrape pots for left overs from the neighbours, with family members providing her with food sporadically. All Maumela ever dreamt of growing up was to become a singer and sing like Rebecca Malope. ²
Acting and music career of Maumela
Maumela started to try her chances in entertainment industry when she entered the auditions in Limpopo for the Lion King production in 2002. She was not chosen for any role nor was she even in top five but this gave her a chance of meeting Duma ka Ndlovu who was the judge of the auditions. Duma saw talent in Maumela and asked her to take his numbers and when she called him she was asked to come to Johannesburg to join acting.

Upon arrival to Johannesburg, Maumela was casted on Muvhango as Suzan in the early 2000s and has been on the show until today. She also appeared on #Karektas Season 1 as a Celebrity Guest. And she is a gospel musician and singer. In October 2016 she released a gospel album called Maumela 1. She is also a pastor and owns a film school called African Academy of Cinematic Arts. ³
