Maduvha Madima is a South African musician, singer, songwriter and actress. She is best known for her 2017 hit song Tshedza Tshanga featuring Tshepo Tshola. Her prominence was also boasted by appearing on SABC2 soapie Muvhango playing the role of Vele Rambulana and by playing Minister Lufuno Joyful Mudau in The River from season 1 to season 4.

Early life of Maduvha Madima

Maduvha Madima was born in a small town of Makwarela in Vhembe district of Limpopo Province in South Africa. She was born in 1980s/90s and she was raised in Makwarela, Venda. At the age of 4, Maduvha was already performing for thousands of crowds in Venda. So she grew up as a musician and all thanks to her parents who were musicians as well. Her uncle and parents formed part of the gospel group Echo where curtain raised for the group.

Maduvha attended her primary school and high school in Makwarela. After finishing her basic education, she enrolled at The Basic School of the Arts where she studied art related studies. She also studied at University of Johannesburg but there is no information of what she exactly studied. [ ¹]

Maduvha began her career as a supporting vocalist and later as a featured artist, exploring many musical genres such as light jazz, dance music, kwaito, and gospel. She also collaborated with Judith Sephuma, Concord Nkabinde, Ernie Smith, Thembi Seete, Mandla “Spikiri” Mofokeng, DJ Dennis Ferrey, Mafikizolo, Oliver Mtukudzi, Lebo M for Lion King, Gaz’ Lam (soundtrack), and in the songs Zola’s Ex-Girlfriend, Revolution’s Light of My Life, and Matsohong.

She backed Vicky Vilakazi, Margaret Motsage, Itani Madima, Jabu Hlongwane, Vuyo Mokoena, Mthunzi Namba, Back To God, Redeemed, and, of course, Joyous Celebration in the gospel genre, and was particularly notable for her outstanding solo on the gospel ensemble Joyous Celebration 6, singing lead vocals on the song Under The Blood. At the height of the blockbuster Afro-pop trio Mafikizolo’s glory, Maduvha successfully stood-in for Nhlanhla Nciza on her maternity leave.

Maduvha’s debut album, simply titled “MADUVHA,” was published in 2006. The album’s songs Light Of My Life, U Lavi Wam, and the Venda jazz piece Fhumulani were favourably accepted by the general audience. This record broadened her horizons, allowing her to perform on international platforms all over the world. In 2007, the album received three SAMA nominations: best newcomer, best urban pop, and best female performer.

With three urban Vendasongs, the captivatingly rhythmic Kondelelani[Endure], a song that challenges listeners to persevere despite difficulties, ‘Ndi a Ni Funa'(I love you), which has become a national smash on radios, and the gospel hymn Mulweli, her second solo album was named AFRICA.

Maduvha is also an actress, whom most people became acquainted with when she appeared in the SABC 1 Gaz’ Lam 2 & 3 youth drama series as Maduvha, a musician. After obtaining the part of Queen Vele Rambulana in the SABC2 drama series Muvhango, she rose to prominence as an actress. She also appeared in Giyani: Land of Blood as Shonisani Mudau and Ring of Lies season 2 as Tshilidzi. She also appeared in the feature films Max & Mona, Paradise Stop, and Amukelani, she also played Minister Lufuno Mudau in The River from season 1 to season 4. [ ³]
