Kennedy’s football career started in 2003 playing for Lusaka Celtic. Between 2003 and 2005, he played for various Zambian teams including Lusaka Dynamos and Kitwe United. In 2005 Kennedy moved to South Africa after being signed by Free State Stars. He made 191 impressive appearances under Free State Stars and remained with them for 8 years until 2013. ¹

In 2013, the Zambian born soccer star joined Mamelodi Sundowns. He has been with the Brazilians since then and played first position until today. In August 2021 Mweene saved goals during the match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs with the end score of 2-2. During that match Mweene saved four penalties and scored one penalty himself which shocked many viewers. At the end of the match he mentioned that, “It’s my secret that one (scoring penalties),” he said as a senior player he had to take charge to win the game.

Kennedy Mweene has been the first choice goalkeeper for his national team, Zambia, since his debut in 2004. He is Zambia’s most capped player, having represented Zambia 120 times. The star has saved every penalty presented to him under his national team.

He participated in the African Nations Cup in 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2012. It quite obvious that Mweene is Zambia’s first choice goalkeeper because of his ability to save goals and for penalty skills. On 17 January 2015, Kennedy Mweene participated in his sixth edition of the Africa Cup of Nations which was hosted by Equatorial Guinea from 17 January to 8 February 2015,

As a best penalty saving goalkeeper, Mweene is probably one of the best goalkeeper in Africa. In 2008 to 2009 season, he won PSL Goalkeeper of the Season Award for best player in the South African top division. In 2006 Free State Stars collected Baymend Cup while Mweene was their goalkeeper. As for Mamelodi Sundowns, Mweene saved goals to win five Premier Soccer League, two Nedbank cups, 2019 Telkom Knockout, CAF Champions League, CAF Super Cup and 2021 MTN Cup. In 2012 he was the Zambian National Team goalkeeper during Africa Nations Cup which was won by Zambia. ²
