Bongile Mantsai is a 40-year-old South African actor, musician and dancer. He was born on 3 February 1982 in Stellenbosch, Western Cape Province in South Africa. Growing up in a small township of Kayamandi, Mantsai’s father was a pastor, giving him a musical background which is influenced by the church. Church introduced him to art as he used to compose music for the choir. ¹

He matriculated from Kayamandi High School. After that he enrolled at Stellenbosch University to Study drama. Mantsai couldn’t immediately get a placement at Stellenbosch University because he didn’t know Afrikaans but because of eagerness he eventually realized his dream. ²

Bongile appeared on films, theatre productions and television productions for over 15 years. He played a starring role of Poncho on Mzansi Magic drama series Nkululeko. He became a prominent actor after appearing on Scandal as Mthunzi Mayisa. In 2017 he played Vija on Inxeba: The Wound, a film about Xolani, a lonely factory worker, travels to the rural mountains with the men of his community to initiate a group of teenage boys into manhood. In 2018 he played a fearless Rabble Rouser on Sew the Winter to My Skin. And in 2019 he starred on South African crime sports film, Knuckle City as Dudu Nyakama alongside Patrick Ndlovu.
