Liopelo Maphate was born in 1982 in Lesotho. Liopelo, a performing arts graduate from the University of the Orange Free State, was born and reared in Lesotho. She then moved to Johannesburg, where she quickly was cast in a prominent role in the seSotho drama series Sergeant Kokobela. [1]

She received the lead role of Luyanda in the now-defunct youth soap opera Backstage in 2000. She has also appeared in episodes of Muvhango, Crossroads, Gaz’lam, Jozi Streets, Scandal!, and Madam & Eve on television. In the short film Afrikano, she additionally portrayed the character of The Bride.
She started working as an insert presenter for the SABC2 music program Afro Café in September 2008. On the SABC2 sitcom Moferefere Lenyalong, she starred as Lesego Matlakala, a stylist, fashionista, and Sugel, from 2008 until 2012. [2]
She starred in the 2014 eKasi+ sitcom Van ‘n Sit as Mpho, the last child and only daughter of the royally affluent Ledwaba family the Sepedi equivalent of the Setswana royal Bafokeng dynasty.
