Linda Sebezo, born on 11 November 1964 (age – 56), is a South African actress, singer, dancer and director best known for her starring role of Koko on SABC 1 sitcom Gauteng Maboneng. She appeared on other television serials such as eKasi Our Stories, Backstage, Isibaya and she currently playing Goniwe Phakathwayo on The Estate.

Early life of Linda Sebezo

Linda Sebezo is a 56 year-old South African actress, dancer, singer and director. She was born on 11 November 1964 in Rockville, Soweto, Gauteng Province in South Africa where she was also raised. Growing up, Linda knew she was born to entertain as she was the only child born in a family of artists. Her father Ronnie was a singer and her aunt Nomazizi Molose acted in TV series Mama’s Love. In 1978 at the age of 15 Linda was discovered by the veteran playwright Gibson Kante who helped in the initiation of her career.

Her parents wanted her to become a nurse but when her father saw her performing in one of Gibson’s plays he admitted with tears that her daughter was born to act. “My parents wanted me to be a nurse because they felt that there is no money in showbiz and they somehow equated it to prostitution. But when my father first saw me perform, he cried and admitted that I had talent for this,” she said. ¹

After being discovered by Gibson Kante in 1978 Linda went on to star in plays such as Hungry Spoon, Ziyabheda, Wemame and She Fears The Night. Since then she has appeared in other countless television serials, shows and has traveled around showing her talents. She appeared on Generations, Isibaya, Gauteng Maboneng, ‘Sgudi ‘Snaysi, Hlala Kwabafileyo, Kwakhala Nyonini, Ashiffa Shaba, Gaz’lam, Muvhango, Soul Buddyz, Isidingo, Backstage, Rhythm City, Stokvel and Inters3xions. In 2009 she directed two of Gibson Kente’s plays: The Call and Mfowethu. In 2010 she starred as Nondumiso in eKazi Our Stories in the episode titled Mkhuseli.

She was a lead a actress in quite a number of stage plays including Money Maker, Location 1973, iPi Ntombi, Love, Crime and Johannesburg; Julius Caesar, Ababemi, Ziyabheda, Things Are Bad Mzala, Wemame just to name a few. In 2013 she starred in the Mzansi Magic sitcom Samsokolo as Ma Josephine Rannko. One of her popular roles she played was starring as Koko on SABC 1 sitcom Gauteng Maboneng. The star is currently playing as Goniwe Phakathwayo on The Estate.²

Linda has got two children, Thandi Sebezo and Fezile Sebezo. There is no record of who her husband is or either she was once married or not. She said she once had dry seasons when she didn’t have acting gigs but she is grateful she was in stockvel. In 2008, police raided her Cleveland home in Johannesburg after they had received a tip off and she was arrested for allegedly be in possession of mandrax valued at a street value of R5m.
