Though celebrities looks stable in terms of finance, some of them do go through tough times to a point of asking for donations from fans. Number 1, Vusi Thanda

Legendary Emzini Wezinsizwa actor Vusi Thanda once went broke and started begging fans for financial assistance. This happened in September 2022 and sympathetic fans and citizens came to his aid. The former actor of The Queen managed to accumulate R100 000 from generous fans and he did showed his gratitude. According to Sunday World, that was only the beginning, as more people opened their purses and pumped more money into Thanda’s bank account

Number 2, Lusanda Mcinga

Another celebrity who asked for money because she was broke is Lusanda Mcinga also known for Lusanda Spiritual Group. This happened two months after Vusi Thanda had asked for donations. The legendary gospel artist went to social media to explain to fans that her cars were repossessed by the bank and she had not been working since covid pandemic. So, she was asking sympathetic fans and netizens to help her with finance in order for her to go back to the studio.

Number 3, Angie Oeh

Another celebrity who asked for financial assistance was Angie Oeh, who was an Afrikaans rapper and musician. She took the route of begging not because she couldn’t feed herself but because she wanted to finance her medical expenses in order to get rid of cancer which had spread through out her lungs. She was only 24 years and people were moved by her situation and they managed to raise R270 000. The money was raised in less than a week and it was more than she had asked for. Unfortunately, few days after the money was raised Angie succumbed to lung cancer and she passed away surrounded by loved ones.

Number 4, Zahara

In May 2022 the late legendary singer and guitarist Zahara went to social media to ask fans for financial help in order to keep her home from being repossessed by the bank. The singer who was supposed to pay for R17 665 per month for her Roodeport home was asking for even as little as R100 from fans to help pay her debts. Her financial woes were attributed to covid pandemic which halted most of public functions including music gigs from which musicians earn a living. In 2023 it was revealed that EFF silently paid R100 000 in Zahara’s home loan to ease her debt. Unfortunately by 2024 the house was repossessed by Nedbank and her family’s efforts to save the town house seems to fail.

Number 5, Zuki Lamani

Popular Influencer Zuki Lamani opened a BackaBuddy campaign to ask Mzansi to help her pay her student fees in June 2023. The amount which needed to be paid was up to R240 000 at Universal of Cape Town. Zuki who is an aspiring actress on top of her influencer career had R840 by 15 June of 2023 in campaign account. Unfortunately Mzansi was not convinced after seeing her viral video of 2019 Durban July in which she could afford VIP Tickets and appeared to live the dream.

Number 6, Dr Malinga

In September of 2022, Dr Malinga’s home was saved from being repossessed by SARS after fans and netizens came to his rescue. The legendary house singer and musician was owing SARS R400 000 and they were coming for his furniture, cars and even his house. Fortunately begging fans for help assisted him to save his home and other properties. He managed to receive R100 000 from donations to settle his debt of the tax bill.

Number 7, Yolanda Mongai

Big brother Mzansi celeb Yolanda Mongai’s fans opened a BackaBuddy campaign to fund her after she was disqualified from the show which would have helped her win R2 million. There is no record that Yolanda had financial problems but her fans were just supporting her to get somewhere in life since she was disqualified. The aim of their fundraising was to donate for her R1 million.

Number 8, Innocent Sadiki

Yesterday, on the 2nd of July, Innocent Sadiki, a well known actress shared news about their home having burned to ashes. The actress took to her timeline to share a video of the incident, asking her followers to keep her and her family in their prayers during this time. According to reports the house situated in Fourways, Johannesburg was worth R3 million rands and it all went up in flames on the first of July. After a while she thanked fans and citizens who assisted her with donations.

Number 9, Zola 7

The last celebrity on our list to receive financial help is the legendary rapper and kwaito artist Zola 7. Don’t Cry hit maker went to social media to ask for money from fans and even shared his bank details so that no one gets scammed. During his fundraising project, Zola received R1 million from Shawn Mkhize also known as MaMkhize.
