They say education is the key to success and certain celebrities have proven that fame alone isn’t enough but education is. These celebrities have acquired degrees in medicine as medical doctors and did not allow those degrees to also hinder them to pursue careers in the lime light.

Number 1: Dr Tumi

A well-known gospel musician Dr Tumi, is not mistakenly called by a title of a Doctor, but he is truly a qualified medical doctor. He studied medicine and graduated with a medical degree from the Medical University of South Africa. Despite having qualifications in medicine, Dr Tumi couldn’t abandon his

dream of becoming a musician. He continued to record music, sing in church and nurture his dream until he became prominent after releasing his hit song “I’m calling you Jesus”.

Number 2: Dr Musa Mthombeni

Another well-known celebrity who is not mistakenly called a doctor is Dr Musa Mthombeni. He is well-known for being a television presenter and an actor. He presented SABC kids show YoTV from 2002 to 2012 and hosted several shows such as Coke Zero Fest, Boy Meets Girl: Milkshake and many others. According to sources like TV SA website, as an actor, Musa played the lead role in an episode of the e.tv drama anthology series eKasi: Our Stories entitled “Boy

Next Door”. Despite fame at young age Musa Mthombeni pursued medical studies at the University of Witwatersrand and graduated with Bachelor of medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.

Number 3: Dr Fezile Mkhize

Generations actor Dr Fezile Mkhize wears many hats, one would say he juggles many balls because of his numerous talents. He is a doctor in real life, an actor on our screens, a model and also a television presenter. He is also a beauty pageant winner of 2024 and title holder of Mister Supernatural. In the field of medicine, Dr Fezile graduated with a medical degree from the University of Cape Town in 2014. He later specialized in cardiothoracic

surgery and currently practices at the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital in Johannesburg.

Number 4: Dr Tamaryn Green

Another beauty pageant winner as Miss South Africa 2018 is Dr Tamaryn Green who is also a qualified medical doctor. Green studied medicine at the University of Cape Town, graduating with a medical degree in 2019. She became famous after winning Miss South Africa 2018 which means she is juggling modeling and medical career.

Number 5: Dr Riaad Moosa

Most people know Riaad Moosa as a comedian or as an actor but they don’t know that behind jokes and comic

character lies a well educated medical doctor. Moosa trained in medicine at University of Cape Town Medical School and did his internship in hospitals near Thokoza in Gauteng, at Groote Schuur and Khayelitsha in Cape Town. In 2001, he graduated from UCT Medical School. He is a qualified medical doctor and GP. He then worked for three years as a doctor.

Number 6: Dr Thato Mosehle

Beauty pageant contestant of 2020 Thato Mosehle is not just beautiful but has big brains too. She is a qualified medical doctor who graduated from the University of the Free State in 2018. After pursuing her medical degree she decided to try out beauty pageant competition and she was crowned Miss

South Africa 1st runner-up, and later represented South Africa in Poland as Miss Supranational South Africa. She returned as the 2nd runner-up at the international Miss Supranational pageant.

Number 7: Dr Rolene Strauss

2014 beauty pageant winner Rolene Strauss is an epitome of beauty with brains because she not into looking fabulous alone but into saving lives as a doctor. She studied medicine and graduated with an MBChB degree from the University of the Free State in December 2017. In the beauty pageant industry, Dr Rolene won Miss South Africa 2014.

Number 8: Dr Tshepo Motsepe

The first lady of South Africa Dr Tshepo Motsepe is a medical doctor in real life. She is best known for being the wife to president Cyril Ramaphosa and the sister of South African millionaire Patrice Motsepe. Dr Tshepo obtained her degree as a medical doctor from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and completed her master’s in public health at the Harvard School of Public Health. She has worked in both public and private practice in Mmakau, Mahikeng, Johannesburg, Pretoria, and in Zimbabwe.

Number 9: Dr Karishma Ramdev

epitome of that. She wears many hats including being part of Health & Beauty, Miss South Africa 2018 finalist, a Medical doctor and a Content creator. Karishma comes from Chatsworth in KwaZulu-Natal but lives in Johannesburg where she is a qualified medical doctor working at the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital.

Number 10: Dr Ade Van Heerden

The last celebrity doctor on our list is Dr Ade Van Heerden who is known for being part of Miss South Africa and took the crown in 2017. She studied medicine at the University of South Africa and graduated in 2016. She is currently practicing medicine as a doctor and second lieutenant in the South African Military Health Services.
